You know what caught me off guard about the Marinell Collection Palm-Mar? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street called Calle Alimoche, which honestly sounds more like a nature preserve than a hotel address – and that’s kind of the point. Most people think of Tenerife and picture the chaos of Playa de las Américas or the tourist madness of Los Cristianos, but Palm-Mar is this almost secret pocket where locals go to escape all that. The hotel sits right in the middle of this planned community that feels more like a Mediterranean village than your typical Canary Islands resort town.

The building itself has this understated elegance – I mean, it’s not going to blow you away with dramatic architecture, but there’s something really appealing about how it blends into the neighborhood. The rooms are spacious (thank god, because Spanish hotel rooms can be shoebox-tiny), and the balconies actually face different directions, so you’re not all staring at the same view. Some look toward the ocean – you can see La Gomera on clear days – while others face the mountains inland. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, which you notice in small ways like remembering your coffee preference or suggesting the best time to visit the nearby golf courses when they’re less crowded.

What really sets this place apart is its location within Palm-Mar itself. You’re walking distance from some seriously good restaurants that most tourists never find – there’s this little tapas place called La Terraza that locals frequent, where you can actually have a conversation without shouting over British stag parties. The beach here is small but well-maintained, and because it’s not on the main tourist circuit, you can actually find a decent spot even during peak season. Plus, if you rent a car (which you should), you’re perfectly positioned to explore the southern part of the island – it’s maybe 15 minutes to the dramatic coastline around El Médano, where the wind surfers hang out, or you can head up into the mountains toward Vilaflor for hiking. The hotel parking situation is straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Tenerife will tell you is not a given. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and honestly, it felt like having a local friend’s guest room rather than being just another tourist in a big resort complex.

  We arrived earlier, so we needed to request an early check-in, I did request that as soon as I arrived at the airport. Fortunately, our apartment was ready so we could check in right away, with no extra fee.
