Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first walked into the Bahia Principe Sunlight San Felipe, I wasn’t expecting much from a 4-star on Avenida de Colón. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this sort of understated elegance that feels more authentic than flashy, which honestly matches Puerto de la Cruz perfectly. I mean, this isn’t some cookie-cutter resort trying to pretend it’s somewhere else – it genuinely feels like it belongs in the Canary Islands.

The location is what really sold me though. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the old town center, and I’m talking about the real Puerto de la Cruz where locals actually hang out, not just tourist traps. The hotel sits right where you can easily slip down to Plaza del Charco for evening drinks (try the local wine, seriously), or head up toward the botanical gardens when you need a break from the beach scene. What I loved most was how quiet it stays despite being on a main avenue – the rooms face away from the street noise, which honestly saved my sanity during the festival season when things get pretty lively outside.

The staff here actually knows the area, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how rare that is. When I asked about the best time to visit Loro Parque, the desk clerk didn’t just hand me a brochure – she told me exactly which bus to take and warned me about the crowds after 11 AM. The rooms themselves are comfortable without being fancy, and the bathrooms are surprisingly spacious (important after long days exploring). The pool area gets busy around midday, but early morning and late afternoon it’s perfect for actually swimming instead of just posing for photos. I will say the breakfast could use some work – it’s decent but nothing special, though the local bread and cheese selection is solid. Check-in was smooth, parking is available but fills up fast during peak season, and the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building. For a 7.7 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d expect – a comfortable base for exploring one of Tenerife’s most charming towns without breaking the bank or dealing with resort nonsense.

  Friendly staff, clean, great beachside location, good food (buffet) and lovely pools, very family friendly and nice large, clean rooms. Could not do enough for us with our baby. We went half board but also very reasonable on additional charges and a lot of free soft drinks and water, also close to local amenities and supermarket. Also in same area as amazing safari park Lora Parque with a walking distance shuttle train!

  Room with seaview on 10th floor was amazing. Bed was quite comfy. we had the all inclusive option – the food was of very good quality, the choice was sufficient, but one evening I got food poisoning from stale panna cotta and I had to deal with it the whole next day, luckily I had antibiotics with me.
