The street’s pretty quiet, tucked away from the main tourist drag in Icod de los Vinos, and you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made Apartamento Sueño del Drago so special. The building itself is one of those traditional Canarian places that actually feels like it belongs in the neighborhood, not some sterile hotel complex dropped in from nowhere.

The apartment (it’s on the fourth floor, so there are stairs—just a heads up) has this incredible view that nobody really prepares you for. I mean, sure, you see “mountain views” in the listing, but when you’re actually standing there with your morning coffee, looking out at the drago trees that give this place its name… well, it hits different. The famous thousand-year-old drago tree is literally a five-minute walk away, and honestly, being able to wander over there in the early morning before the tour buses arrive? That’s worth the price of admission right there. The owner clearly knows this area inside and out—they’ve set up the space so you can really take advantage of being in Icod without feeling like you’re missing out on anything.

What really got me was how thoughtfully everything was arranged. The kitchen actually has proper cookware (not those flimsy tourist apartment pans that don’t heat evenly), and there’s a local market just down the street where you can grab fresh tomatoes and that incredible Canarian cheese. The Wi-Fi is solid—I was working remotely for part of my stay and never had issues, even during video calls. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of town, but the owner gives you specific instructions that actually work, unlike some places where you’re just left to figure it out. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after dinner, which I loved, though if you’re looking for nightlife, you’ll want to head toward the coast or up to Puerto de la Cruz (about 15 minutes by car). But honestly, sitting on that little balcony in the evening with a glass of local wine, watching the light change on Teide in the distance… I found myself canceling dinner plans just to stay put. That 9.5 rating isn’t just numbers—this place genuinely gets the details right in ways that make you want to extend your stay.
