Hotel Description
You know what? I was honestly skeptical when I first pulled up to Viva Forest Apartment on Camino las Cabezadas – I mean, the address sounds pretty remote, and when you’re winding through those narrow roads in Icod de los Vinos, you start wondering if your GPS is having a laugh. But then you actually see the place nestled among all that greenery, and it clicks why they called it “Forest Apartment.”
The thing about this spot is that it’s perfectly positioned for people who want to experience the real Tenerife without being stuck in some touristy resort bubble. You’re literally a stone’s throw from the famous Drago Milenario – that ancient dragon tree everyone talks about – but more importantly, you’re in actual Icod, where locals still hang out in the plaza and you can grab proper Canarian food without paying tourist prices. The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which I actually loved. It’s got that lived-in comfort that makes you want to kick off your shoes and settle in for more than just a night or two. The kitchen’s properly equipped (not just some sad mini-fridge situation), and there’s something really satisfying about picking up fresh ingredients from the local market and cooking with those massive windows open, listening to the sounds of the neighborhood waking up.
What really sold me on this place, though, was how quiet it gets in the evenings. During the day, you’ve got the typical Spanish rhythm – people chatting, maybe some construction somewhere, the occasional dog barking – but once the sun starts setting, it’s remarkably peaceful. You can actually hear the wind in the trees, which sounds cheesy but honestly made such a difference after months of city noise. The 3-star rating might make you think it’s basic, but I’d argue it’s got everything you actually need and none of the stuff you don’t. No fancy lobby with marble floors, but the Wi-Fi works great, the bed’s comfortable, and the shower has proper water pressure – sometimes that’s worth more than all the amenities in the world. Plus, and this is key if you’re planning to explore the island, you can actually park without circling the block fifteen times or paying through the nose for it. The location gives you easy access to both the coast and those incredible hiking trails up in the mountains, so you’re not stuck choosing between beach days and adventure days. I’d definitely come back, especially during the shoulder seasons when it’s less crowded but still warm enough to keep the windows open all night.
