You know what? I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in Puerto de la Cruz, and Violetas del Teide actually surprised me. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Calle Doctor Celestino González Padrón – which honestly, I had to ask three locals how to pronounce correctly. The address makes it sound a bit complicated (piso 1, vivienda 25), but it’s basically just a well-converted apartment building, and once you find it, you’ll appreciate being off the main tourist drag.

The thing about this place is that it sits in this sweet spot between the old town charm and being close enough to everything that matters. I mean, you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the Plaza del Charco where all the evening action happens, but far enough that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The building itself has that typical Canarian architecture – you know, the kind with the wooden balconies and that slightly weathered look that somehow feels authentic rather than run-down. What really got me was how quiet it was during siesta hours; there’s something about the way the apartments are positioned that just blocks out the usual Puerto de la Cruz hustle.

The 9.2 rating honestly makes sense once you experience it. It’s not trying to be some flashy resort – it’s more like staying at a friend’s place, if your friend happened to have really good taste and attention to detail. The rooms feel lived-in but clean, and there’s this genuine warmth from the staff that you don’t always get at the bigger hotels down by Playa Jardín. I loved that they actually knew the neighborhood – like, they told me about this little bakery around the corner that opens at 6 AM and has the best cortaditos, and about which bus to take to get to the cable car station without the tourist markup. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in Puerto de la Cruz will tell you is basically a miracle. The whole experience felt more connected to the real Tenerife, not just the postcard version. Sure, it’s a three-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or a concierge, but honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want – somewhere comfortable and genuine where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re performing being a tourist.
