Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Villa Montaña Ilusión? The name sounds almost too whimsical to be real, but honestly, it fits perfectly once you’re there. This place sits up on Camino Las Chozas – and I mean really up there – giving you these sweeping views over La Orotava that’ll have you reaching for your phone every five minutes. The whole valley spreads out below, with those iconic Canarian rooftops and the ocean shimmering in the distance. It’s one of those spots where you actually understand why people moved to Tenerife in the first place.
The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward (they mention it right in the name, which should tell you something about how rare decent parking is around here). I’ve stayed at places in La Orotava where you’re circling narrow streets for twenty minutes, cursing under your breath, so this was a relief. The WiFi actually works throughout the property – not just in the lobby like some places I could mention. The whole setup feels like someone took a traditional Canarian house and updated it thoughtfully, keeping the character but adding the stuff you actually need. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake, with local touches that don’t feel forced or touristy. You can tell they’ve put thought into the little things, like having proper blackout curtains (crucial when you’re dealing with early Atlantic sunrises) and keeping the place quiet enough that you’re not hearing every footstep from the room above.
What really gets me is how this place captures that authentic Canarian mountain living experience without making you rough it. La Orotava itself is this gem that most tourists blow past on their way to Teide or the beaches, but locals know it’s got some of the best traditional architecture on the island. From Villa Montaña, you’re close enough to wander down to the historic center – those gorgeous colonial buildings and the famous Casa de los Balcones – but far enough up the hillside to feel like you’ve escaped the crowds. The 9.7 rating isn’t just inflated review scores either; you can feel it in how smoothly everything runs and how genuinely welcoming the staff are. I mean, it’s not perfect – the location means you’ll want a car, and the mountain roads can be a bit intimidating if you’re not used to them – but that’s also exactly what makes it special. It’s for people who want to actually experience Tenerife beyond the resort strips, where you can sit on your terrace in the evening with a local wine and watch the lights come on across the valley.

An amazing villa in the mountains of North Tenerife, offering breathtaking views over the Orotava valley and the northern coast! The house itself is spacious and practical, comprising everything needed for a comfortable stay, while the location is very convenient, striking an optimal balance between the calmness of a remote location and the convenience of being near amenities and sights. The owner has clearly put their heart and soul into creating a very special place, and my family and I felt truly honoured to be able to be part of it! Would most definitely look no further when visiting Tenerife again!

Julio was an exceptional host and welcomed us warmly to his amazing Villa. We spent a fantastic few days here, enjoying the view, excellent location and of course stargazing from the hottub every evening. Would fully recommend to anyone looking to switch off for a few days

We had a perfect week-long stay in this beautiful house. From the moment we got in, we had the impression that the house is very well taken care of, the atmosphere is very inviting.
The highlight is of course the balcony, with stunning views of Mt Teide, the city of Puerto de La Cruz and the ocean. The outdoor jacuzzi was a real treat, especially at night while stargazing—an unforgettable experience.
Another standout feature, especially cause it can be a bit chilly at night in November, was the fireplace. It made our nights very cozy.
The kitchen was fully equipped with everything needed to cook any dish, including a microwave, making meal preparation easy and enjoyable. We really didn't feel like we had to eat at a restaurant.
The bathroom was clean and well-stocked with essentials, even including a hairdryer, while the clean towels and bathrobes added an extra touch of comfort.
The location was incredibly peaceful, providing a safe and relaxing environment. The private parking was a convenient bonus, and the property served as an excellent base for hiking and exploring the island.
The host was exceptionally friendly and helpful, ensuring that everything was perfect for our stay, although everything was well prepared, so we didn't need anything.
The only minor drawbacks were the steep roads leading to the property, which might take some getting used to, and the lack of window nets, which occasionally let flies inside the house.
Overall, this house offers a wonderful combination of rustic charm, comfort, and great location. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a serene getaway in Tenerife!Anna from Poland (10/10)
The house is absolutely wonderful – located in very pleasant, quiet neighbourhood with spectacular view from the balcony. The kitchen is equipped with all essential equipment. The living room is big and very comfy. And jacuzzi in the garden! The host is also really friendly and helped us with planning our trip.

Cozy and spacious house a bit into the hills, extremely well equipped and nice terrace with great ocean views and as well the Teide Volcano. You can also count on support from Julio with any question. We really enjoyed our stay, and would for sure recommend the place if you want to get away from the more crowded locations. There is also a nice bakery nearby. Listen carefully to Julio which road to take to get to house, else maps or waze will direct you onto an extremely steep uphill road, a bit scary, apparently only suitable for downhill driving.

Our host Julio met one of our group at a nearby petrol station to show them to the apartment and explained everything. Fantastic view of Puerto de la Cruz and Mount Teide from the terrace. Great spot to start hiking tours up the mountain.
