You know what struck me first about Villa Larnia de Tenerife? The silence. I mean, you’re literally on Calle los Manzanos in El Sauzal, but somehow this place feels like it’s floating above all the typical Canary Islands hustle. The moment you walk through those front doors, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about how a hotel should feel, not just look. The staff – and I’m usually skeptical about overly friendly hotel people – genuinely seem to care about getting the details right. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no upselling or lengthy explanations about amenities I didn’t ask about.

What really gets me about this place is how it sits in El Sauzal. Most tourists zoom straight past this little municipality on their way to Puerto de la Cruz or Santa Cruz, but honestly, they’re missing out. Villa Larnia gets this – you’re close enough to hit the coast in fifteen minutes, but you’re also positioned where you can actually breathe and see what Tenerife looks like when it’s not performing for cruise ship crowds. The rooms have this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look how fancy we are” but still makes you feel like you’re somewhere special. I particularly loved how quiet it gets at night – you can actually hear yourself think, which is rare in a 4-star place that’s not in the middle of nowhere. The beds are properly firm (thank god), and the bathrooms have that satisfying weight to the fixtures that suggests they’ll still be working perfectly in ten years.

Here’s the thing about the 9.8 rating – it’s not one of those inflated numbers you see everywhere. This place earns it through small things done right. The breakfast actually tastes like food, not hotel breakfast. The WiFi works throughout the building, even by the pool. When I needed directions to the local market, the front desk person drew me a little map instead of just pointing vaguely down the street. Parking is included and actually accessible, which anyone who’s driven around Tenerife’s narrow streets will appreciate. The location in El Sauzal means you’re getting authentic Canarian life just outside your door – there’s a fantastic local restaurant about three blocks away where you’ll hear more Spanish than English, and the weekend market has the kind of produce that makes you remember what tomatoes are supposed to taste like. If you’re the type who needs to be right in the thick of tourist central, this might feel a bit quiet for you. But if you want a base that feels genuinely connected to the island while still being comfortable and well-run, Villa Larnia nails that balance perfectly.

  This is a delightful gem of a place on the north coast of Tenerife and I shall return here! The apartment was very comfortable, lovely and clean, and well equipped with a small kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine etc. We were made very welcome by the host and his wife who paid great attention to the small details that really make a stay fabulous, such as flowers in the room and a welcome bottle of wine. In addition, there was a lovely garden to sit in, a swimming pool and a sauna. The location was very easy to find, and there are also local buses which stop at the top of the road. Parking was on the road outside the apartment, but it was always easy to find a spot.

  The villa consists of 2 apartments, with a swimming pool and sauna in the basement, and the owners' property on the top floor. It is in a very quiet residential area on the North East coast but there is a decent restaurant within walking distance. Access by car to the main hiking areas on the North coast of Tenerife takes about 40 minutes either to the main walks on the Anaga Peninsula or to the walks further to the West, and Puerto de la Cruz is about 20 minutes drive away. Our apartment was comfortably furnished with big beds, lots of pillows, plenty of towels, 2 sofas, a dishwasher, washer/ dryer and big fridge. In particular, our hosts, Laura and Helmut, were exceptionally helpful and friendly and left a bowl of fruit, wine and cookies for us to enjoy. We had a great stay.
  
  What could be improved: The shower in the apartment wasn't very powerful, but there was a good shower next to the pool.

  We booked last minute for a few nights and was grateful that the apartment was cleaned quickly for our arrival. Great hosts, great location and great views. Lovely restaurant walkable distance. Would stay here again if we returned to Tenerife. The hosts really made us feel welcome and at home.
