You know what struck me first about Villa la Casita? The name actually makes sense when you see it – it really does feel like staying at someone’s charming Spanish villa rather than a typical hotel. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in San Miguel de Abona, which honestly, most people just drive through on their way to the airport or bigger resort towns. But that’s exactly why I loved it here. The whole area has this authentic Canarian vibe that you miss when you’re stuck in the tourist zones down by the coast.

The hotel itself is beautifully maintained – you can tell the owners actually care about the place. My room had these gorgeous traditional tiles (the kind you see in older Spanish homes) and the bed was legitimately comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re only about 15 minutes from the airport. The thick walls do their job, and the street itself doesn’t get much traffic after dark. Parking was never an issue either, which is honestly a relief if you’re planning to rent a car and explore the island. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful – they gave me actual local recommendations, not just the standard tourist trap suggestions. One woman at the front desk told me about this little family-run restaurant about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise.

Here’s the thing about San Miguel de Abona – it’s not flashy, but it’s real. You’ll see locals walking their dogs in the evening, kids playing in the small plaza nearby, and there’s this wonderful bakery just down the street that opens ridiculously early (perfect if you’re dealing with jet lag). The location is actually pretty clever if you think about it. You’re close enough to zip down to the southern beaches in about 20 minutes, but you can also easily head up into the mountains for hiking. I mean, you get the best of both worlds without paying resort prices or dealing with resort crowds. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the island, but everything works exactly as it should. The Wi-Fi was solid (important if you’re working remotely), the air conditioning kept up with the heat, and honestly, the whole experience just felt… comfortable. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re exploring a place as dynamic as Tenerife.

  Cute house with a beautiful pool, away from the busy coastal region in a quiet village. Overlooks a large hill, so quite private. The restaurant nearby was able to accomodate us one night (including a vegan) and it was great local fare. We ate huge mushrooms we'd never seen before that grow locally. Friendly manager, also gave tips for local supermarket, etc. A very sweet place with a lot of potential.
  
  What could be improved: A few rough edges, felt like they hadn't rented for very long so still have some kinks to work out. We didn't mind, but good to know. Was a little tricky to get the key, would work better with a lock box. We used the GPS to arrive and ended up on some very small windy roads – we found a much easier way to get there afterwards but it would have been helpful to know. It's a bit smaller than it looks in the photo. We found it a bit too far out and there is really nothing around to do (and we went in May and it was really too cold to use the pool, a big reason for booking this place). The back garden is shared with the restaurant so is slightly less private in that regard. All in all we really liked it, but the location and weather made it less than perfect, and they can't help either of those.
