Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of apartments in Puerto de la Cruz over the years, and honestly? The Vanilla! 1 Bedroom on Calle Dácil really surprised me. When I first saw the name I thought it might be some generic tourist trap, but this little place has genuine character – and that 9.8 rating isn’t just inflated nonsense.

The location is actually perfect if you know Puerto de la Cruz at all. Calle Dácil is this quiet residential street that locals use, so you’re not dealing with the chaos of the main tourist drags, but you’re still maybe a seven-minute walk from Playa Jardín. I mean, you can literally hear the ocean from the apartment on quiet evenings, which is something you don’t get in the town center places. The building itself feels authentically Canarian – not one of those modern concrete blocks they’ve been throwing up everywhere. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that “meet us at a different location” nonsense that seems to plague half the vacation rentals on the island.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail inside. The apartment actually feels like someone’s home, not a sterile rental unit. The kitchen is small but properly equipped – I’m talking decent knives, real plates, a coffee maker that doesn’t look like it came from a gas station. The bedroom gets this lovely morning light that doesn’t blast you awake at 6 AM, and the bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t spend three nights adjusting to a saggy mattress. You know what else? The WiFi actually works, which… well, let’s just say that’s not always a given in Puerto de la Cruz rentals. There’s even a little balcony where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the bathroom is typically European-sized, so if you’re used to American-style bathrooms, just adjust your expectations accordingly.

The neighborhood itself is where this place really shines. You’re close enough to walk to the Botanical Garden without breaking a sweat, and there’s this fantastic local bakery about two blocks away that most tourists never find. The area stays pretty quiet at night – no drunk British tourists stumbling around at 3 AM like you get near the beach bars. During the day, you’ll see families heading to the local park, people walking their dogs, that sort of authentic daily life that makes you feel like you’re actually experiencing the place rather than just passing through it. Parking isn’t terrible either, which anyone who’s driven in Puerto de la Cruz will tell you is basically a miracle.

I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and honestly, I’d book it again without hesitation. The four-star rating feels right – it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and genuinely comfortable. For the price point and location, especially with that kind of guest rating, it’s the sort of place that makes you want to extend your stay by a few days just because you’re not ready to leave yet.
