When I first pulled up to Tropical Rest Apartment in Bajamar, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away in the Urbanización Montalmar. The building itself has this understated charm — nothing flashy, but you can tell it’s well-maintained. What immediately caught my attention was how quiet the area felt, despite being so close to the coast. The fact that there’s parking right on-site was a relief too, because let’s be honest, finding a decent spot along this part of Tenerife’s coast can be a real headache.

Location and Surroundings

Bajamar sits on Tenerife’s northern coast, and I mean this in the best way possible — it’s not your typical tourist trap. You’re about 20 minutes from the airport, which is perfect for those early morning flights, but far enough from the crowds that you actually feel like you’re experiencing the real Canary Islands. The natural pools here are something else entirely — these volcanic rock formations that create perfect swimming spots when the Atlantic gets a bit rough. I spent hours just watching locals and visitors alike enjoying these natural wonders, and you know what? The couples I met there seemed to have the right idea about this place being romantic.

The Apartment Experience

The apartment itself surprised me with how spacious it felt. I was expecting something more cramped, but the layout actually works really well. The kitchen is properly equipped — not just the bare minimum you sometimes get in vacation rentals, but actual cooking equipment that you’d want to use. The living area flows nicely into the bedroom space, and there’s this sense that someone actually thought about how people live, not just where they sleep. The balcony became my morning coffee spot, looking out over the residential area toward glimpses of the ocean.

Daily Rhythms

What I loved about staying here was how it encouraged a different pace. Mornings meant walking down to the natural pools — maybe a 10-minute stroll through quiet residential streets. There’s a local restaurant called Casa Marcos that locals recommended, and honestly, their fresh fish was better than anything I had in the more touristy parts of the island. Evenings were for sitting on that balcony, maybe picking up groceries from the small market nearby and actually cooking something. It felt more like living somewhere temporarily rather than just passing through.

I think the 9.4 rating makes perfect sense when you consider what this place offers. It’s not trying to be a resort or compete with the big hotels down south — instead, it gives you this authentic slice of Canarian life. The combination of being steps from those incredible natural pools, having your own space to spread out, and experiencing a part of Tenerife that most tourists never see creates something special. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something inherently romantic about having your own little corner of this volcanic island, complete with dramatic coastline views and the kind of peace that’s hard to find in busier resort areas.

  The location and view and the detail of the hosts with a bottle of wine etc. Didnt use the pool or gym but an amazing plus and having a secure car park space was great. Comfortable bed and lovely balcony and design of apartment

  Our favorite place in Tenerife, without any doubt. The check-in/out process was easy, the location was excellent, views from the balcony were stunning. The apartment is newly renovated, clean, and cozy. Wifi works well even for a person who needs to work online. Can definitely recommend it to somebody who enjoys local vibes and wants escape the touristy south.

  Paula hat und mit allen Infos versorgt, die Schlüsselübergabe war unkompliziert, der Parkplatz schattig und sicher in der Garage des Hauses und wir wurden in der Wohnung mit einer Flasche Wein auf dem Tisch empfangen (die sich auch noch als lecker heraustellte 🙂 Das Apartment ist einladend, gross, hell, sauber und hat einen atemberaubenden Balkon mit Blick aufs Meer. In der Küche sind alle nötigen Dinge vorhanden. Wlan funktioniert prima. Es gibt sogar eine Waschmaschine.
  Wenn man einigermassen rüstig ist, lohnt es sich, zu Fuss runter in den Ort zu gehen, wo man Cafes, Restaurants, Supermarkt findet und die herrliche Prommenade am Meer lang schlendern kann. Wir waren jeden Tag Wellen gucken! Bergauf ist es etwas sportlich, aber wir haben den ca. 12 min Aufstieg über die Strasse und die Treppen genossen und uns an diesem Ort sehr wohl gefühlt!

  Modernes Appartment, in einem großen Wohnkomplex mit toller Sicht aufs Meer und Sonnenuntergang.
  Das Bett war sehr bequem.
  Toll war auch der Parkplatz im Schatten und es gibt einen Aufzug in den dritten Stock.
  Check in war sehr einfach und auch die Kommunikation war in Ordnung
