Hotel Description
You know what’s funny about finding great places to stay? Sometimes the best ones are hiding in plain sight, and this traditional Canary house on Calle Arena is exactly that kind of gem. I mean, Poris de Abona isn’t exactly where most tourists end up – it’s this quiet fishing village about twenty minutes south of the airport that most people just drive through on their way to the bigger resorts. But honestly, that’s what makes staying here so special.
The house itself feels like stepping into someone’s actual home (because, well, it basically is). We’re talking thick stone walls that keep things naturally cool, wooden shutters that you’ll actually want to open every morning to let in that ocean breeze, and floors that have this worn-in character you just can’t fake. The beach is literally right there – not “a short walk” like hotels love to claim, but actually next door. You can hear the waves from bed, which sounds cliché until you’re lying there at night listening to them. The water here isn’t the pristine tourist-beach kind, but it’s real and peaceful, and you’ll probably have it mostly to yourself except for the occasional local fisherman heading out early.
What really got me was how the owners – they live nearby and you’ll likely meet them during check-in – know all these little things that make a difference. Like where to park so you’re not blocking the narrow street (street parking only, but it’s never been an issue), which small restaurants in the village actually serve decent food (there’s this place called Casa Rafa about five minutes away that doesn’t look like much but does incredible fish), and when the local market happens if you want to grab fresh produce. The house comes with a proper kitchen, by the way, not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation.
I’ll be honest, this isn’t the place if you want room service and a pool bar – the closest thing to hotel amenities is the small terrace where you can sit with your coffee and watch the sunrise over the Atlantic. But if you’re looking for that authentic Canary Islands experience without the crowds, where you can actually hear yourself think and maybe learn a few words of Spanish from the neighbors, this is it. The 9.8 rating makes sense when you realize what you’re getting – it’s not trying to be a resort, it’s just being itself really, really well.
One thing to note: you’ll want a rental car. The village has a bus connection to Santa Cruz, but it’s pretty limited, and honestly, having wheels gives you the freedom to explore the dramatic coastline and hill towns that make this part of Tenerife so incredible. Plus, grocery runs are way easier when you’re not hauling bags on foot.

Great location and beautifully furnished – Şahbaz from Germany – 6 February 2025 (10/10)
The house was beautifully furnished, and everything was thoughtfully arranged. The kitchen was very well-equipped, and the entire place was spotlessly clean. Its location right by the sea was fantastic, and it was also very close to two lovely cafés. Pharmacies and supermarkets are within walking distance, making it very convenient. There is also a nice walking path towards Abades.
At one point, there was a power outage, but the hosts responded quickly and helped resolve the issue efficiently.
What could be improved: The only downside is that it is a bit pricey, but we will come back definitely:)A unique and unforgettable stay, full of charm and Canarian character! – Jose from Switzerland – 1 December 2024 (10/10)
This house is a true gem, just a short walk from the beach. The patio is like a work of art—a beautiful space to relax and enjoy. The whole house is filled with authentic Canarian charm, showcasing the history and identity of the region in every detail. The living and dining area, set in a stunning lava cave, is absolutely unforgettable. A truly unique and remarkable place to stay!

Emplacement exceptionnel, maison décorée avec goût, la mer à la porte !
Fantastica casa vacanza – Enrico from Austria – 8 January 2025 (10/10)
