Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Toscal Nest – it’s one of those places that completely surprised me. When I first saw the address on San Juan Bautista, I honestly wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s right in the thick of Santa Cruz’s busiest shopping street, third floor of what looks like just another city building. But here’s the thing – sometimes the best finds are hiding in plain sight.
The moment you step inside, you realize this isn’t your typical three-star setup. The owners have actually put thought into this place, and it shows. The apartment-style rooms feel more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed flat than a hotel room. What really got me was the attention to detail – proper blackout curtains (trust me, you’ll appreciate this when the Spanish sun hits at 6 AM), decent water pressure in the shower, and surprisingly good WiFi. The kitchenette isn’t just for show either; there’s actual cookware you can use, which is perfect since the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África is literally a ten-minute walk away.
Now, about that location – yeah, you’re going to hear some street noise, especially during the day when San Juan Bautista is buzzing with shoppers. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. You’re in the absolute heart of Santa Cruz, surrounded by those beautiful Canarian balconies and colonial architecture. Plaza de España is practically around the corner, and if you’re into the local scene, you can walk to the Auditorio de Tenerife in about twenty minutes along the waterfront. The building itself doesn’t have parking, but there’s a public garage two blocks down on Calle Pilar – just factor that into your budget if you’re renting a car. What I loved most was how the staff actually knew the neighborhood. When I asked about finding good papas arrugadas, they didn’t just point me to the nearest tourist trap – they sent me to this tiny place on Calle Castillo where locals actually eat. That’s the kind of insider knowledge that makes a difference. The 8.6 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for. Clean, comfortable, genuinely welcoming, and positioned so you can really experience Santa Cruz rather than just pass through it.

Beautiful lovely sized property, large bedroom with comfy bed, nice balcony as well. Large kitchen with possibly everything you need to cook a meal. The bathroom was humoungous, has a nice washing and loads and loads of storage everywhere. A very comfy sofa with nice smart TV for entertainment which we made good use of. There's no limit the no of buses to get from around the property, no matter what corner of the island you're planning to visit from the centre, its there. There's a huge strip of bars and restaurants just 10 walk away from the property and alo the posrt and beach are a small bus ride or a 20 min walk away. Host was really helpful with loads of suggestions and has instantly replied all the time. Would 100% recommend and would love to come back to stay here again.
