Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Toplage. Blick. Sauber. Günstig. Pool. Gepflegt,” I thought someone had just thrown German words at a wall to see what stuck. But you know what? They weren’t lying about any of it. This little apartment hotel tucked away on Calle del Doctor Ingram is actually one of those hidden gems that makes you feel a bit smug for finding it.

The location is what really sold me – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the black sand beaches of Playa Jardín, and I mean an actual five minutes, not that inflated hotel marketing nonsense. The building itself (Edificio Girasol) sits in this quiet residential pocket where you’ll hear actual Spanish conversations from the balconies instead of just tourist chatter. The pool area is surprisingly well-maintained for a 3-star place – nothing fancy, but clean tiles and decent loungers that aren’t falling apart. I spent most mornings there with coffee before the German tourists claimed their spots around 9am (they’re efficient like that). The apartments themselves are pretty spacious, especially if you’re used to cramped European hotel rooms. Mine had this little kitchenette that actually worked – rare enough to mention – and the bathroom was updated enough that I didn’t feel like I was stepping back into 1987.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know Puerto de la Cruz inside and out. The guy at reception (Miguel, I think?) steered me away from the touristy restaurants on the main drag and toward this little Canarian place up the hill where locals actually eat. The cleaning service was thorough without being intrusive – they’d swap towels and tidy up while I was out exploring, no fuss. Sure, the WiFi gets a bit spotty on the higher floors, and you can hear the neighbor’s TV if they’re watching late-night Spanish game shows, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. The whole place has this lived-in feel that’s way more comfortable than those sterile chain hotels down by the marina. For what you’re paying (and trust me, it’s reasonable for this area), you’re getting a proper apartment with a pool, decent location, and none of the pretentious attitude you’ll find at pricier spots. Plus, there’s a Mercadona supermarket about three blocks away, which is perfect for stocking up on Spanish wine and those addictive Canarian bananas.

  Spacious studio apartment in great location near bus station. Photos are accurate. Good WiFi. TV. Kitchenette fairly well equipped, though keen cooks may find some items missing. Well decorated, clean bathroom. Small balcony area facing inland. Good communications from the owners and accessing the key was easy from the friendly reception staff.
  
  What could be improved: Decor generally a little tired, but to be expected for the price. Bed mattress is rather soft and makes a noise on movement. Slight drains smell occasionally from bathroom. Shower holder needs to be replaced. TV had no English language channels. Fairly clean but not spotlessly clean. Worst aspect for me was the complete lack of sound proofing from neighbouring rooms and the street outside – quite noisy all night long, which would be less of an issue if you are there to go out at night too.

  I liked the room, bed was confortable, nice terrace, reception in the building, easy communication with the owner. Location near bus station and beaches. And also restourantes and supermarket near. Nice neibrhood.

  This is a great place to stay close to Plaza del Charco. The studio is fully equipped nothing is missing. Very clean & comfortable. Everything is in walking distance less than 10 minutes to the bus station, even closer to the harbour & seafront. I will definitely stay there again.
