You know what caught me off guard about Terrazas Malpaís? The name makes it sound way more dramatic than it actually is – I mean, “malpaís” literally means “badlands” in Spanish, but this place is anything but harsh. It’s tucked away on Camino la Coronela, which is honestly one of those streets you’d never find unless someone told you about it or you stumbled across it by accident. The whole setup feels like someone’s really well-designed family compound that just happens to take guests.

The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re close enough to Garachico’s old town that you can walk to those famous natural pools (the ones carved out by volcanic rock) in about ten minutes, but far enough up the hill that you escape the tour bus chaos that hits the main square around midday. From the terraces – and yeah, the name totally makes sense once you see them – you get this layered view of the Atlantic that changes completely depending on the time of day. Early morning it’s all misty and mysterious, then by afternoon the water turns this incredible deep blue that photographs don’t really capture.

What I really appreciated was how the staff actually knows the area. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but they’ll tell you when the local fish market gets its best catch (Tuesday mornings, apparently) or which hiking trails are worth your time versus the ones that are just Instagram bait. The rooms themselves are solid – nothing fancy, but everything works and the beds are actually comfortable, which honestly isn’t always a given at three-star places. The whole property has this clean, modern vibe that doesn’t try too hard to be “authentic Canarian” with a bunch of forced rustic touches. Sometimes simple is better, you know?

I will say the road up can be a bit tricky if you’re not used to narrow Spanish mountain roads – there’s one particular curve that had me holding my breath the first time. But there’s decent parking once you get there, and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. No weird hidden fees or confusing key card systems. The kind of place where you can actually relax instead of constantly figuring out how things work.

The 8.9 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it nails what it is trying to do – a comfortable, well-located base for exploring this part of Tenerife that most people rush through on their way to the bigger attractions. Garachico itself is worth at least a couple days if you’re into that slower travel pace, and having a quiet spot to retreat to makes all the difference. Plus, the sunsets from those terraces are honestly worth the trip alone.

  Die Lage und die Aussicht auf die Bananenplantage war super. Parkplatz immer vorhanden gewesen.
  Es war kein Föhn…keine Kaffeemaschine und keine Orangenpresse vorhanden…hat uns der Hausmeister sofort gebracht. Einrichtung könnte man gemütlicher /besser gestalten…ist aber o.k.

  Le logement est vraiment particulier la vue est incroyable. Logement très calme aucun bruit la nuit le matin. Terrasse avec vue sur la mer les photos sont vraiment identiques à la réalité aucune mauvaise surprise. Les personnes que nous avons côtoyé ici ont été absolument adorables et à notre écoute. Vous pouvez réserver les yeux fermés ce logement.
