You know what caught me off guard about Take It EaSea? The name made me expect some cheesy beach-themed place with shell decorations everywhere, but honestly, it’s got this understated elegance that grows on you. Tucked away on Calle de Las Higueras in San Miguel de Abona, it feels like you’ve stumbled onto something the locals are trying to keep secret – though with a 9.5 rating, I guess that cat’s out of the bag.

The location is actually pretty clever when you think about it. San Miguel de Abona isn’t one of those tourist-packed spots where you’re fighting for space at every café, but you’re still close enough to the action when you want it. I mean, you’re about fifteen minutes from the coast if you’re craving beach time, but far enough inland that you get this authentic Canarian vibe that’s hard to find in the resort areas. The staff seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned I’d walked around the old town center – apparently most guests just use it as a base and miss the little plaza with that centuries-old church. Their loss, really.

What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to nail that four-star sweet spot without trying too hard. The rooms have this clean, modern feel but with enough local touches that you remember you’re in Spain, not some international chain hotel. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms actually have decent water pressure – you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue in renovated older buildings. Check-in was smooth, no drama with parking, and the front desk guy gave me restaurant recommendations that were actually good, not just places that give them kickbacks. There’s something to be said for staying somewhere that’s clearly run by people who care about the details but aren’t constantly hovering over you.

The breakfast spread was solid – fresh local fruit, proper coffee, and they do this thing with tomato bread that’s simple but perfect. I ended up eating on the terrace most mornings because the view over the valley is one of those “pinch yourself” moments, especially when the morning light hits the mountains. It gets busy around 8:30 when the day-trippers start their activities, but if you’re up early or sleep in, you’ll have it mostly to yourself. Honestly, for what you’re paying and the quality you’re getting, it’s kind of a steal – especially compared to what the beachfront places charge for half the character.
