The location on Avenida Familia de Betancourt y Molina is actually perfect – you’re close enough to hear the ocean if you listen carefully, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with street noise at 2 AM. The building itself (Edificio el Drago) looks pretty standard from the outside, but apartment 210 has this whole different vibe once you’re inside.
What really got me was the attention to detail. I mean, someone clearly thought about what travelers actually need. The kitchen wasn’t just for show – it had proper knives, decent cookware, and enough counter space to actually make breakfast without feeling cramped. The bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works, not the wimpy ones you usually get. And honestly, the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that weird hotel back pain. The balcony faces west (hence the name, I guess), so you get these incredible sunset views over the rooftops toward the coast. On clear days, you can actually see Teide in the distance – something the photos don’t really capture.
Here’s the thing about Puerto de la Cruz that a lot of people don’t realize: it’s got this perfect mix of local life and tourist amenities, and Sunset Avenida sits right in that sweet spot. You’re maybe a 7-minute walk to Plaza del Charco, where all the action is, but you’re also surrounded by actual neighborhoods where people live and work. There’s this little bakery around the corner that opens at 6 AM – perfect for grabbing pastries before the crowds hit Lago Martiánez. The owners were super responsive when I had questions about parking (there’s street parking nearby, but it fills up during peak season), and they actually gave me insider tips about which beaches are less crowded on weekends. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout the apartment, which matters if you’re trying to work remotely or just need to upload all those sunset photos. I stayed for five nights in October, and honestly, by the end I felt like I was staying in a friend’s place rather than a rental. That 9.7 rating? Yeah, I get it. It’s not trying to be fancy or over-the-top – it’s just really, really well done.
