You know what? The Sol Puerto de la Cruz surprised me more than I expected. Walking up to this place on José del Campo Llanera, you’re basically in the heart of Puerto de la Cruz but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy-chaotic like some of the hotels closer to Playa Jardín. I mean, you’re still a solid 5-minute walk to the black sand beach (which honestly is perfect – close enough to hear the waves at night but far enough that you’re not dealing with beach crowds stumbling past your window at all hours).

The lobby has that classic Canarian vibe without trying too hard – you’ll see what I mean when you spot the local artwork mixed in with more standard hotel decor. Check-in was actually smooth, and the staff switched between Spanish and English effortlessly, which you appreciate when you’re jet-lagged and fumbling with your passport. The rooms are… well, they’re solid 4-star without being fancy. Clean, comfortable beds, and most importantly the AC works (trust me, even in Tenerife’s mild climate, you want that option). Some rooms have partial ocean views if you crane your neck a bit – not exactly balcony-sunset-Instagram material, but there’s something nice about catching glimpses of the Atlantic between the buildings.

Here’s the thing about this area though – you’re perfectly positioned for the real Puerto de la Cruz experience. The botanical gardens are literally a 10-minute walk, and if you head down towards the old town, you’ll hit those narrow streets where locals actually eat, not just the tourist strips. The hotel sits in this sweet spot where you can walk to Lago Martiánez (those gorgeous seawater pools) in about 15 minutes, but you’re also close to the bus stops that’ll take you up to Teide or over to Santa Cruz if you’re feeling adventurous. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this neighborhood – the hotel has some spots but Puerto de la Cruz streets are narrow and honestly, you might find yourself circling a few blocks. That said, once you’re settled, you barely need a car anyway.

The pool area gets decent sun most of the day, and there’s usually a good mix of Spanish families and international travelers, so the vibe stays relaxed without being too quiet. Breakfast is… look, it’s hotel breakfast, but they do include some local touches like proper Spanish ham and those little pastries that taste way better than they look. The 7.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it won’t disappoint either. You’re paying for location and reliability here, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re using Puerto de la Cruz as your base to explore the island. Just book a room on the higher floors if you can – the street can get a bit lively on weekend nights, but in that fun Spanish way where everyone’s just enjoying themselves.

  True 4star hotel, pleasant stuff, good rooms and meal. Perfect location, hotel is next to beach with black sand and also 10 min walk to city center. LORO PARK is only 15 min by foot.

  Lovely staff, great location next to beach and bus station.
  There was live music and other guests dancing which provided a lovely atmosphere on the Saturday night.

  A good hotel with an excellent breakfast. The property is spotless clean. It's very close to the beach, but just keep in mind that at least in February 2025 it was impossible to swim in any beach in Puerto de la Cruz except one rocky one 2 km from this hotel.
