You know what struck me first about Silken Saaj Maar? The name alone makes you do a double-take, but once you’re actually standing on Calle de San Telmo – this quiet little street that most tourists walk right past – you realize this place gets it. I mean, Puerto de la Cruz can feel overwhelming with all the tour groups and souvenir shops, but here’s this adults-only oasis just tucked away from the madness. The 4-star rating doesn’t tell the whole story honestly; it’s one of those places that feels more thoughtful than flashy, if that makes sense.

The location is actually pretty brilliant once you figure out the neighborhood. San Telmo isn’t the main drag where everyone’s fighting for beach chairs, but you’re still close enough to walk to Playa Jardín in about eight minutes (I timed it). What I loved was how you could slip back here after a day of exploring and actually hear yourself think. The staff seemed to know their guests by name after like two days, which is rare these days – there’s this genuine warmth that you don’t get at the massive resort chains. Check-in was smooth, none of that standing-around-forever thing, and they actually gave useful recommendations beyond the typical tourist traps. Someone there told me about this little tapas place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise.

The whole adults-only concept works really well here because it’s not trying to be some party destination – it’s more like a proper retreat where you can actually relax. Mornings were my favorite time; there’s this calm energy before the town wakes up, and you can sit with coffee and plan your day without kids running around screaming (sorry, parents, but you know what I mean). The 8.4 rating seems about right – it’s not perfect, but the things they do well, they do really well. Puerto de la Cruz itself gets crazy busy during peak season, but staying here felt like having a secret base where you could escape when you needed to. I’d definitely go back, especially if I wanted to explore more of northern Tenerife without dealing with the resort scene in the south.
