You know what caught me off guard about Sholeo Lodges Los Gigantes? The moment you step out onto your terrace — and trust me, you’ll want one of the rooms with a terrace — those massive cliffs just dominate everything. I mean, I knew they were called “Los Gigantes” for a reason, but seeing them first thing in the morning while you’re having coffee is honestly something else entirely. The hotel sits right on Avenida Gaviota, which sounds fancy but it’s actually just the main drag that runs parallel to the water, putting you maybe a three-minute walk from the marina where all the whale watching boats dock.

The place itself is pretty no-nonsense in the best way possible. It’s got that clean, minimalist vibe that actually works here — white walls, simple furniture, but everything feels solid and well-maintained. The staff genuinely seem to know what they’re doing, which I appreciated after dealing with some… less competent hotel teams elsewhere in the Canaries. Check-in was smooth, they speak decent English (though a bit of Spanish goes a long way), and they’re honest about things like which rooms get the best cliff views versus the ones that look toward the street. Speaking of which, the street-facing rooms can get a bit noisy during the day since Avenida Gaviota sees its share of tourist traffic, but it dies down pretty early in the evening.

What really makes this place work is the location specifics that you don’t get from just looking at a map. You’re literally walking distance from Playa de los Guios — the black sand beach that’s way less crowded than the main beach areas. The little coastal path that runs behind the hotel? Perfect for morning walks before it gets too hot, and you’ll pass maybe three other people total. There’s also this tiny local bar called El Rincón just around the corner that serves the best papas arrugadas I had on the entire island, but you’d never find it unless someone told you. The hotel’s own pool area is nothing spectacular, but honestly, with the ocean right there and those dramatic cliffs creating this natural amphitheater effect, you’re not spending much time poolside anyway. One thing though — if you’re planning to rent a car, parking can be a bit tight during peak season since this whole area gets pretty packed with day-trippers coming to see the cliffs. But the hotel has a few spots, and there’s usually street parking if you don’t mind walking a block or two.
