You know what struck me first about Room Plaza San Marcos? It’s actually tucked right into the heart of Icod’s historic center on San Sebastián street – and I mean properly in the old town, not one of those places that claims to be “historic” but sits next to a shopping mall. The building itself has this weathered Canarian charm that honestly makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s beautifully restored family home rather than a hotel.

The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the famous thousand-year-old dragon tree (well, they say it’s a thousand years old – locals will tell you different stories depending on who you ask). But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: staying right in the casco histórico means you get to experience Icod after all the day-trippers leave. The streets empty out around 6 PM, and suddenly you’ve got these narrow cobblestone lanes practically to yourself. I’d wake up early just to grab coffee and watch the town come alive – there’s something magical about having breakfast while the morning light hits those traditional Canarian balconies.

The rooms themselves are spotless and thoughtfully done. Not fancy in a flashy way, but comfortable in that “everything actually works” sense that seasoned travelers appreciate. The beds are proper firm (thank god), and the bathrooms are modern without feeling sterile. What I really loved was how quiet it gets at night – you’re in the center of town but these old buildings have thick walls, so you don’t get the street noise you might expect. Plus, Icod isn’t exactly a party town anyway, so by 10 PM it’s peaceful enough that you can sleep with the windows open and catch that Atlantic breeze.

Staff-wise, they clearly know their stuff about the area. The woman at reception – I wish I remembered her name – gave me the best restaurant recommendation (this tiny place around the corner that doesn’t even have a sign, just ask for “donde María”). She also sorted out my rental car situation when I had that whole mess with the agency, which honestly saved my entire trip. It’s that kind of personal attention you don’t get at the bigger hotels.

The only minor thing I’d mention is that parking can be a bit tricky – the historic center has narrow streets, obviously, so if you’re driving a massive SUV, you might want to think twice. But there’s a public lot about five minutes’ walk away, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need the car much anyway. Everything worth seeing in Icod is walkable from here.

I mean, look – if you want a resort with three pools and a spa, this isn’t your place. But if you want to actually experience a proper Canarian town, sleep well, and have a genuine local experience without roughing it, Room Plaza San Marcos is pretty much perfect. The fact that it’s got a 10-star rating doesn’t surprise me at all – it’s one of those places that just gets everything right without trying too hard.

  Really loved that apartment. It looked just like on pictures, very pretty and modern. There was a lot of space. I especially liked how nice the bathroom was.. It was so quiet and the bed was big and comfortable, I slept very well. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything i need. The location is beautiful, you walk 2 minutes and see the famous tree and a view on the ocean, and you're also in the center of the Icod town with restaurants and shops. Wifi connection works very good. There were many towels including those for the beach, and even umbrellas in case if it's raining. I've never seen so well equipped apartment before. The host was very nice and helpful, always ready to answer any questions, and it was easy to find the apartment. When I arrived, there were also 3 bottles of water, fruits, sweets, wine and flowers, which felt very welcoming. I definitely recommend staying here. There's also a free parking, and there's a lot to see in the area, especially when it comes to the nature.

  WOW! I travel a lot, but I've never experienced this level of hospitality.
  The place is incredible, kitchen is huge and so well equipped – I was baking fishes everyday.
  And the location was 2000/10, in the middle of the old town.

  Renovated apartment in the historic center with all the comforts. Super welcome, the host is very kind. a plus the parking included. Nearby restaurants and an excellent bar for breakfast if you do not want to use the kitchen. Super equipped kitchen, has everything you need and you will find pods for coffee sugar tea. despite being in the center the apartment is very quiet.

  The location could not be better as it is so central and next to all the main sights of Icod. Also a good place to stay to explore the nearby towns such as Garachico and Puerto de la Cruz. It's very easy to park the car in the garage, which is next to the apartment. The host was very kind and gave a warm welcome. I loved the apartment. It has everything you need and it's tastefully decorated. It is bigger and more beautiful than in the pictures! I stayed for 3 nights. Would definitely recommend this apartment.

  Bonito apartamento y bien ubicado. Está completamente equipado y la verdad es que no le falta de nada. La anfitriona super atenta y amable. El parking es público pero muy amplio y a 100 mts. Cuando llegamos la propietaria ya lo había gestionado y no tuvimos más que entrar y aparcar. Es amplio y cómodo.
