You know what caught me off guard about Rincón de Joel? The moment I walked up Camino la Candelaria, I realized I was actually staying in someone’s home – and I mean that in the best possible way. Joel’s place sits right in the heart of La Orotava’s old quarter, where the streets are narrow enough that you can practically touch the buildings on both sides, and honestly, that’s part of the charm. The private bathroom situation is exactly what you’d hope for – clean, decent water pressure, and none of those weird hostel vibes where you’re wondering who used the shower before you.

What I really appreciated was how Joel actually knows the area. He’s not just some distant host collecting booking fees; this guy will tell you which guachinche serves the best local wine (there’s one about ten minutes down the hill that tourists never find), and he’ll point out the shortcut to the botanical gardens that saves you a sweaty uphill climb. The room itself is simple but thoughtful – I mean, it’s not luxury, but everything works, the bed’s comfortable, and there’s this little window that looks out onto the traditional Canarian architecture that makes La Orotava so photogenic. The morning light hits it just right, actually.

Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town – the streets weren’t exactly designed for modern cars – but Joel sorted that out for me with directions to a spot locals use. What surprised me most was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re basically in the center of everything. During the day, you’ll hear the occasional motorbike puttering past or neighbors chatting, but it’s that authentic Spanish town soundtrack rather than tourist noise. The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore the real Canary Islands without staying in some generic resort down by the coast. You can walk to those gorgeous wooden balconies everyone photographs, grab coffee at the local bars where they actually know your name by day three, and still be close enough to catch a bus to Puerto de la Cruz or Teide National Park. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because you realize you’ve found something genuine – and with an 8.4 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who felt that way.

  Sehr sauber und super liebe Gastgeber. Die Anfahrt ist über eine steile Straße, aber machbar. Parkplätze findet man immer auf der Straße. Eine Bushaltestelle ist 4 Minuten entfernt.
  
  What could be improved: Man muss wissen, dass ein Zimmer kein Fenster nach draußen hat. Daher ist es etwas „Stickig“. Nur ein Fenster in den Flur. Ansonsten ist die Wohnung recht dunkel. Zum übernachten aber super. Preis-Leistung ist top.

  La struttura ha 2 camere che possono usufruire di una ampia cucina e un salottino dove c'è la TV. Buon wifi. Check in in autonomia.

  What could be improved: Come tutte le recensioni il problema è l'umidità. Il mattino si trovavano gli abiti umidi. Forse con un deumidificatore si potrebbe risolvere. Inoltre la mia stanza non aveva alcuna finestra. Il bagno era dedicato ma esterno.
  Difficoltà a trovare parcheggio perché in una via stretta.

  Schöne Wohnung mit allen was man braucht und sehr freundlicher Besitzer. Es gab's sogar Netflix.
  
  What could be improved: Wenig Parkplätze, aber es ist auf der Insel bekanntes Problem. Aber eine Bushaltestelle ist ganz in der Nähe. Deswegen man braucht nicht unbedingt ein Auto.

  Tenía todo lo necesario para estar cómodos, limpieza y privacidad.
  
  What could be improved: Humedad y en nuestro caso echamos en falta cambio de sábanas/toallas ya que estuvimos muchos días (pero aclarar que tampoco lo pedimos, por lo que igual se nos hubiese facilitado sin problema).

  Destacar la amabilidad del propietario y lo bien que nos trató y supo gestionar todo.
  Me ha gustado la ubicación, la Orotava es un sitio precioso. Es cierto que se tarda un ratito desde Santa Cruz, pero si queréis visitar el Norte de la isla estáis muy bien ubicados.
  Una habitación tiene baño privado dentro y la otra habitación tiene también baño privado, solo que está fuera. La cocina es bastante grande, el salón también y bien cuidados.
  
  What could be improved: Por decir algo: la humedad. Lo digo como "critica constructiva" por si se puede buscar alguna solución, entiendo que es debido al clima de la zona, pero las sábanas y colchas de las camas estaban mojadas todo el tiempo y la ropa que dejábamos en la habitación también permanecía muy húmeda.
