The building itself is pretty standard Spanish architecture, nothing fancy, but there’s something refreshing about not being in a tourist bubble for once.

The location is actually brilliant if you know the area. Melchor Luz runs parallel to the coast, so you’re close enough to hear the Atlantic on quiet nights but far enough inland to avoid the worst of the tourist crowds that swarm the waterfront hotels. I mean, you can walk to Playa Jardín in about ten minutes – and trust me, early morning walks there before the day-trippers arrive are pure magic. The street itself is pretty typical for Puerto de la Cruz, with that slightly worn but charming feel that makes Tenerife’s north coast so different from the polished south. There’s a small supermarket two blocks down (you’ll need it since you’ve got apartment-style accommodations), and honestly, the local bakery around the corner does these incredible bocadillos that’ll ruin you for hotel breakfast forever.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – residential buildings just have a different energy than hotels. You might hear the occasional neighbor, but it’s nothing like those massive resort complexes where you’re dealing with poolside parties until 2 AM. The apartment itself is pretty straightforward, clean but not luxurious (this is a 3-star place, after all), though the kitchen setup actually works well if you want to grab fresh fish from the market and cook it yourself. The 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not going to wow you with amenities, but it does what it promises without any nasty surprises. Check-in was smooth enough, though you’ll want to coordinate timing since it’s not a 24-hour front desk situation like the big chains. Parking can be a bit tricky on this street – it’s that typical Canarian narrow road situation where you might need to circle the block a few times, but honestly, once you’re settled, you probably won’t need the car much anyway. Puerto de la Cruz is totally walkable, and the local bus connections are actually pretty decent if you want to explore other parts of the island.
