Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Playa Benijo Paraíso Relax Rural Trail and Photo,” I thought someone had just thrown every appealing word they could think of into a hat and pulled them out randomly. But you know what? After spending a few days at this place tucked away on Pista el Draguillo, it actually makes perfect sense.

This isn’t your typical Tenerife hotel experience, and I mean that in the best possible way. First off, you’re way up in the Anaga Mountains – like, properly remote. The drive from Santa Cruz takes about 45 minutes of winding mountain roads, and honestly, I was questioning my GPS for the last 15 minutes of it. But then you arrive and realize why they call it paraíso. The place sits right above Playa de Benijo, which is this wild, black sand beach that most tourists never even know exists. From your room, you can actually hear the waves crashing against those dramatic basalt cliffs, especially at night when everything else goes quiet.

The accommodation itself is refreshingly unpretentious – it’s a 3-star rating that feels earned rather than inflated. The rooms are clean and comfortable without trying too hard to be fancy, which honestly fits the vibe perfectly. What really got me was how they’ve embraced the whole “photo” part of their name. The staff genuinely knows the best spots for sunrise shots (and trust me, you’ll want to wake up early for those), plus they’ve got this informal network going with local hiking guides who know trails that aren’t on any tourist maps. I ended up on this incredible path that leads to Roque de las Bodegas – not exactly a secret, but definitely not crowded either. The rural setting means you’re surrounded by these ancient laurel forests, and the air actually smells different up here, sort of earthy and clean in a way that makes you realize how much city pollution you’re usually breathing.

Parking is easy, which sounds boring but matters when you’re dealing with mountain roads and rental cars. The whole area gets pretty quiet after sunset since there’s not much around except a couple of local bars in Taganana village (about 10 minutes away). I actually loved this – no street noise, just ocean sounds and maybe some goats wandering around in the morning. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me because this place delivers exactly what it promises, just don’t expect resort amenities or room service. It’s more like staying at a friend’s mountain house, if your friend happened to live in one of the most beautiful corners of Tenerife that nobody talks about. Perfect for people who want to disconnect a bit and see the island beyond the southern beach resorts – though definitely bring a decent camera, because the photo opportunities are legitimately incredible.

  The property is in a great location in the village of Benijo, close to the path to the beach. It’s perfect for a short stay with everything you need – except one thing……
  
  What could be improved: …. Even with the windows open there’s not much air flowing so we were very hot. A simple fan would be a useful addition to the inventory.

  Amazing location perched right above Benijo Beach, with your own terrace with a view. Easy parking at your front door. Great starting point for hiking to Draguillo or for going to the beach. Clean and convenient, with lockbox check-in. Good wifi.
  
  What could be improved: Bare bones apartment – just a bathroom, two beds, and a small kitchen (mini-fridge, plug-in hob). No living room (but you do have the amazing terrace!).

  There is a big, spacious parking lot, it was never an issue to park our car. The flat is very well equipped, there were spices, oil, coffee, tea and other stuff in the kitchen. We even got beach towels. It's super clean, and spacious as well. The panorama from the shared terrace is absolutely stunning.
  
  What could be improved: The neighbor watched TV very loudly at 1:30am, so it was hard to sleep. It should be communicated not to do this during the night.
