So I stumbled across Pintadera’s house—they also call it Tara, which honestly confused me at first until I realized it’s just one of those charming local quirks—tucked away on Calle Malvasía in Icod de los Vinos. You know what struck me immediately? This isn’t your typical hotel experience. It’s more like staying at someone’s really well-appointed family home, if that family happened to have impeccable taste and a knack for making strangers feel welcome.

The location is actually pretty brilliant once you get oriented. Icod de los Vinos isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot (which is part of its charm), but you’re literally walking distance from that famous thousand-year-old dragon tree everyone talks about. I mean, it’s touristy as hell during the day, but early morning or late afternoon? You’ll practically have it to yourself. The street itself is quiet—none of that annoying traffic noise you get in the bigger coastal towns. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven around Tenerife will tell you is not a given.

What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a day or two. The owners clearly know their stuff—everything from the local wine selection (and trust me, being in wine country, they better get this right) to the way they’ve decorated with local crafts without making it feel like a tourist trap. The breakfast spread includes these incredible local cheeses I’d never heard of, and honestly, the woman running the place seems to know every bakery and market within a twenty-kilometer radius. She casually mentioned the best days to hit the farmers market in La Orotava, and you know what? She was absolutely right.

The rooms themselves are comfortable without being fancy—think boutique hotel meets someone’s cool aunt’s house. Everything works properly (the wifi is actually decent, which is more than I can say for some five-star places I’ve stayed), and the beds are legitimately comfortable. You’ll sleep well here, especially since the neighborhood goes pretty quiet after dinner time. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the hot water takes a minute to get going in the morning, but that’s pretty standard for this part of the island.

What impressed me most was how the place strikes this perfect balance between giving you space to do your own thing while having someone available who actually knows the area. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but where locals go for coffee, which hiking trails are worth your time, and—this was clutch—where to get your car serviced when you inevitably scrape it on one of those impossibly narrow village streets. The rating of 9.1 makes total sense when you consider that this is exactly what you want when you’re trying to actually experience a place rather than just photograph it for Instagram.

  Very prompt, responsive, and pleasant when we had 2 electrical failures, the hairdryer and the kettle on two different days. Both were replaced within a few hours. Very clean and some lovely touchs – white wine, wee emergency toothbrush and toothpaste. Lots of shampoo conditioner and shower gel. Good shower. Really comfortable bed. Lovely pool area with plants, loungers, etc. Pool heated with jacuzzi section, loved it. It is shared with other guests, and it appears to be 3 apartments in all. We had a few days to ourselves.

  The apartment is exactly as described and well organized. We really enjoyed staying there with our two girls. The surroundings are very calm, and the view and terrasse are astonishing. The owners were very nice and responsive before and during our stay. We highly recommend it!

  What could be improved: I didn't know it was a shared garden/pool. Maybe I miss read the description when booking. But about 3-4 rooms are able to use the pool & garden. We were lucky that not many people did. As we used it alot

  Lokalizacja – 1 godzina jazdy z lotniska na południu wyspy, wynajętym w TopCar samochodem. Przyjechaliśmy po północy, właściciel na nas czekał by przekazać klucze. Apartament piękny jak na swoją cenę. Zadbany, czysty i w klimacie kulturowym. Pokój z łóżkiem 2-osobowym (wygodny materac) oraz w salonie sofa narożna z opcją rozkładania dla dwóch osób. Byliśmy w 3 osoby, więc wszyscy świetnie się wysypiali. W salonie z sofą był telewizor, ale nie było czasu z niego skorzystać. Taras z basenem i jakuzzi – świetna sprawa, jednak wracaliśmy zawsze późno wieczorem, a temperatura wody w styczniu nie zachęca ani rano, ani wieczorem ; ) Na tarasie stół, zabudowany grill i dużo zieleni – ogólnie taras piękny. No i oczywiście widok z tarasu, który zapiera dech w piersiach. Widok na Ocean, na góry i na wulkan. Miejscówka jest nieco wyżej, więc jeszcze po zachodzie był piękny widok na miejscowość pod nami mieniąca się setkami światełek – uroczo. Łazienka skromna, ale czysta z umywalką, toaletą i prysznicem + kilka szafek = więcej nie trzeba. W kuchni podobnie czyli wszystko co potrzeba ze sprzętów jest, łącznie z ekspresem, ale należy dokupić we własnym zakresie kapsułki. Mogłoby być więcej naczyń: sztućców, kubków i talerzy, bo gotowaliśmy sobie sami, a przy takiej ilości akcesoriów, zmywarka była niepotrzebna – trzeba było zmywać na bieżąco, co oczywiście nie jest minusem pobytu. WAŻNE! – pewnego dnia jedna ze znajomych zgubiła portfel z pieniędzmi, kartą i dokumentami. Koszmar. Jednak okazało się, że portfel został zgubiony pod domem. Właściciel go znalazł i położył na przedniej szybie auta. Leżał tam przez całą noc i rano miła niespodzianka ; ) Czy pozostawienie portfela na noc na samochodzie zamiast zapukanie do drzwi to dobra decyzja pozostawiam innym, ale to jednak stawia mieszkańców w dobrym świetle wbrew opiniom. Proszę jednak wziąć pod uwagę, że taras z wszelkimi udogodnieniami nie jest na wyłączność – dom posiada 4 apartamenty.
