Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Ona Pearly Grey on La Lava street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in understated packages. This little gem sits right in the heart of Callao Salvaje, and I mean *right* in it – you’re literally a two-minute walk from that gorgeous black sand beach that most tourists somehow miss because they’re all crowded up in Los Cristianos.

The thing about this hotel is that it actually gets the balance right between being affordable and not making you feel like you’re staying in a hostel. The rooms are clean (I mean genuinely clean, not just “tourist clean”), and honestly, the staff here seem to give a damn – which is refreshing after you’ve dealt with some of the more touristy spots along the coast. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and the vibe was just… relaxed. You’ve got mostly European guests, a lot of regulars it seems like, and none of that spring break chaos you get at some places. The pool area actually stays pretty quiet in the mornings if you’re the type who likes to grab a coffee and just sit without someone’s kid cannonballing every five minutes.

What really sold me on this place though is the location – and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way every hotel claims. Callao Salvaje is sort of this sweet spot where you’re close enough to the action (Puerto Santiago is maybe ten minutes if you’re walking along the coastal path), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds every day. There’s this little supermarket right around the corner where the locals actually shop, and honestly, grabbing fresh bread and jamón there in the morning became part of my routine. The hotel breakfast is decent enough, but sometimes you just want to do your own thing, you know? Plus, if you’re driving – and you should rent a car in Tenerife, trust me – the parking situation here is actually manageable, which is more than I can say for a lot of places along this stretch of coast. The only minor thing is that rooms facing the street can get a bit of road noise in the early morning, but it’s not terrible and the ocean-facing rooms are definitely worth the small upgrade if it’s available.

  The location was exceptional. It has close proximity to supermarkets and restaurants.
  
  What could be improved: The staff were not as friendly and supportive as I would have expected for a hospitality company. When my UK chargers didn’t fit into the plug, I approached reception and they were very unhelpful. Couldn’t even direct me to places where I could get extension. I requested for one double bed and I received an email that it has been done. However, I arrived to two single beds and they kept going apart through out the night. When I went to the reception to inform them, the lady said told me that I was even lucky to have been given that room that the room is actually more expensive than what I paid for and that if I want, she could move me to the lower room where there’s double bed. That simply didn’t make any sense to me and it was in a very rude way. I must however applaud the efforts and exceptional customer service of Mellisa when we met on the first and second day. She was very helpful and supportive. She made us forget the unprofessional behavior of others.

  Everything was lovely. Travelling alone I felt safe and the location was great. There were a lot of shops, bars and restaurants close by so I didn’t have to go far on my own.

  The property was amazing in a good location not far from the beach, supermarkets, restaurants. Wasn’t full of young party people was mostly quiet but so nice the views from pearly grey were amazing 🙂
