You know what struck me first about OKEANOS Eco Guest House? It’s actually tucked away in Los Abrigos, which honestly isn’t where most tourists end up staying – and that’s exactly what makes it special. This little fishing village on Tenerife’s southern coast feels worlds away from the resort madness, even though you’re literally twenty minutes from the airport. The guesthouse sits right in the heart of el Cabo, where you can smell the salt air mixing with whatever the locals are grilling at the harbor restaurants down the street.

The place has this laid-back, slightly bohemian vibe that really lives up to the “eco” part of its name. I mean, they’re not just throwing around buzzwords here – you’ll notice the solar panels, the herb garden where they actually grow stuff for breakfast, and the way they’ve converted what feels like an old Canarian house without losing its character. The rooms are simple but thoughtful, with those thick volcanic stone walls that keep things cool even when it’s blazing outside. Honestly, the 3-star rating doesn’t tell the whole story because the owners (who you’ll definitely meet – they’re hands-on in the best way) have put real care into the details. The common areas have this comfortable, lived-in feeling where you’ll end up chatting with other travelers over coffee that’s way better than it has any right to be.

What really won me over though was the location – Los Abrigos is where actual Canarians go to eat fish. You can walk to the harbor in about three minutes and hit up places like Cofradía de Pescadores, where the menu changes based on what boats came in that morning. The beach isn’t much to look at (it’s more of a working harbor), but if you want proper sand, Playa de la Tejita is maybe a ten-minute drive and it’s absolutely gorgeous without the crowds. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring the rest of the island – the volcanic landscapes around Teide, the wineries up in La Geria, even the green north coast isn’t too far. Parking’s never an issue here, which anyone who’s driven around southern Tenerife will tell you is a blessing. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s genuine and welcoming in a way that makes you want to extend your stay just to hang around the village a bit longer.
