Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about OceanView II? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet little street – Calle San Telmo – where you can hear the ocean but you’re not dealing with all the tourist chaos that hits the main waterfront areas. I mean, Puerto de la Cruz can get pretty hectic, especially during the summer months, but this spot feels like you’ve found something the cruise ship crowds haven’t discovered yet.

The building itself is sort of典型 Canarian style – nothing fancy, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. You’re on the fourth floor (apartment 401), and while the elevator works fine, just know you might be waiting a minute or two during busy times. The apartment has this lived-in feel that I actually prefer over those sterile hotel rooms where everything’s bolted down. There’s real personality here – the kind of place where you can spread out your stuff and actually feel comfortable. The ocean views are legit, by the way. Not just a sliver of blue between buildings, but actual proper views where you can watch the waves and spot the occasional dolphin if you’re lucky.

What really works about this place is the location within Puerto de la Cruz itself. You’re maybe a five-minute walk from Plaza del Charco, which is where all the good restaurants are (seriously, try the papas arrugadas at any of the local spots – they do it right here). The black sand beaches are close enough that you can pop back to rinse off the salt without it being a whole production. Parking can be tricky in this area – I’d recommend the public lot near the plaza if you’ve got a rental car, though honestly, you might not need one much since everything’s walkable. The 7.4 rating makes sense to me; it’s not luxury, but it delivers on what matters. The wifi actually works, the kitchen has everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the Mercadona down the hill, and the shower has decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in older buildings).

One thing I noticed – mornings are beautifully quiet here, but evenings can get a bit lively since you’re close to the town center. Not crazy loud, just… alive, you know? That’s Puerto de la Cruz for you. If you’re the type who needs absolute silence, maybe pack some earplugs, but if you like falling asleep to the sound of people enjoying themselves and waves in the distance, it’s actually pretty perfect.

    My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beds were very comfortable and it was lovely to sleep with the patio doors open and listen to the ocean. With the balcony doors open the apartment also stayed nice and cool. The kitchen area had everything we needed, although we didn’t cook, we could have with the facilities there. Ocean View rentals were great communicators, and messaged through whatsap all the info I needed beforehand and replied promptly to my messages. As our flight was a late one and outside of checking times I was given clear instructions to collect the keys from a lockbox very close by. The apartment is very central to lots going on so there is quite a bit of noise in the evenings, we enjoyed listening to the hustle and bustle and music but probably wouldn’t be great if you wanted quiet to sleep. I would definitely book this again, we loved it!

    What could be improved: The shower wasn’t the best but it did what it was supposed to do so it wasn’t a bother. Give it a few extra minutes to warm up, it gets there eventually!

    The location and view from the balcony is spectacular. A fantastic flat right in the heart of it all. We slept every night to the sound of the waves. Everything you need is provided and the apartment is very tastefully presented and decorated.

    What could be improved: Communication was totally lacking. I sent 3 e mails asking where to pick up the keys and at what time. I got no reply. Eventually the host said that he is glad that everything worked out. This was crazy because I still did not know where to meet and at what time. We ended up waiting at the wrong door. There are 4 blocks close together and we should have been block 3 so we waited by the door at block 3. After a while and having finally phoned to agree a time we met up with a lady who told us we were waiting at the wrong door. She then took us to block 2 which had the number 4 on it. This totally confusing and an absolute failure on the hosts part to communicate clearly. Also, we only had one key and the street door buzzer system does not work so as a couple we had to stay together or one or the other would have been locked out. This lack of clear communication could ruin a holiday as it nearly did ours. Fortunately the apartment location and view made it worth while in the end. A message to the host. MANAGE YOUR PROPERTY CORRECTLY ! You need to sort out your method of communication and clearly explain where to meet up and where the door is.

    What a fabulous location! We loved watching the sea and hearing the waves crashing from the little balcony.
    It was also nice to hear people busking in the evening.
    The fact that it is north facing means that you can enjoy the balcony without sitting in the afternoon sun and the sun making the room too hot.
    It’s a great location in the old town and so nice to have a beach on the doorstep where we enjoyed snorkelling and seeing a lot of fish.
    The bedroom is on the back so you can still leave the French doors open and not be disturbed by too much noise.

    What could be improved: The apartment met our needs perfectly but the toilet / shower room is small and could be better designed.

    Lo mejor del apartamento es la ubicación y las vistas. El Interior del apartamento está bastante bien y las camas son muy cómodas.

    What could be improved: El horrible olor dentro del portal y en el ascensor. Todo el edificio está viejo y poco cuidado, no así los apartamentos que sí están bastante bien cuidado. Mala experiencia con el personal al cargo, desde el primer día no nos funcionó la wifi. Ni siquiera aparecía el nombre de la wifi y no nos lo solucionaron hasta el día de antes de irnos que nos dijo uno de los trabajadores que nos dejarían un router pero ya no lo queríamos, evidentemente.Tuvimos otro problema, las llaves del portal abrían también la puerta del apartamento. Se lo dijimos por si no eran conscientes de ello. No daba nada de confianza. Como estábamos todo el día fuera nos pidieron permiso para entrar en el piso y comprobarlo todo y nunca supimos si fue alguien. La persona con la que hablé de repente dejó de estar disponible en wasap y se empezaron a pasar la bola de un trabajador a otro. En ese aspecto muy mal.

    Der Ausblick vom Balkon ist einfach super. Die Einrichtung ist praktisch, aber völlig ausreichend für den Urlaub. Die Lage ist super. Check-In und der Service sind super, sehr freundlich.

    Die Lage ist phänomenal! Die Mitarbeiter von Ozean sind äußerst hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend.

    What could be improved: Die Ausstattung der Wohnung ist miserabel:
    – mehrmals innerhalb vier Wochen fiel der Strom aus
    – die Steckdose über der Küchenzeile fiel laufend aus der Wand (Lebensgefahr!)
    – das warme Wasser aus der Dusche kam nur in kleinen Tropfen (wahrscheinlich ist die Warmwasserleitung verkalkt)
    – Aufzug Tür in der vierten Etage schließt nicht automatisch. Dadurch ist der Aufzug sehr oft unbenutzbar.
    – im TV Gerät kann man weder über Kabel noch über Internet deutsche Programme empfangen.

    Es war in der Wohnung alles vorhanden, was man braucht und sie entspricht der Beschreibung und den Fotos. Es ist keine 5 Sterne Unterkunft aber alles passt, ist angenehm und sauber. Küche gut ausgestattet (Toaster, Wasserkocher, Kaffemaschine, Pfannen, Geschirr) Schlafzimmer etwas dunkel (zum Hausflur) aber Matratzen gut. Balkon mit super Aussicht auf das Meer. Aufzug vorhanden. Unterm Strich: Sehr schöner Aufenthalt! Umgebung ist quirlig und sehr schön. Ist halt mitten im Städtchen. Sehr gute Marina zum Baden und sonnen sehr nah und preiswert (wenn Baden im Meer wg. roter Flagge gefährlich). Kontakt zum Vermieter war immer schnell und hilfreich.
