You know what caught me off guard about OBSIDIAN Aguamarina? It’s tucked away on Avenida Olof Palme in Puertito de Güímar, which honestly feels like discovering a secret that most tourists haven’t figured out yet. I mean, everyone flocks to the southern beaches, but this spot – it’s got this quiet confidence about it. The building itself has these clean, modern lines that somehow don’t clash with the traditional Canarian architecture you’ll see if you wander down toward the little fishing harbor. And you should definitely wander down there, by the way – it’s maybe a five-minute walk and you’ll find locals pulling in their nets in the early morning, which is infinitely more interesting than whatever’s happening at the resort pools in the south.

The hotel really nails that balance between polished and unpretentious. Check-in was smooth (they actually remembered I’d mentioned traveling for a hiking trip in my booking notes), and the staff seem to genuinely know the area rather than just reciting scripted recommendations. My room faced inland toward the mountains, which I thought might be disappointing, but honestly? Watching the light change on those volcanic slopes throughout the day was better than any ocean view I’ve had. The amenities are thoughtfully done – everything works properly, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes like some places, and there’s actually decent water pressure in the shower. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to rinse off after a day exploring the Malpaís de Güímar or hiking up toward the pine forests.

What really sets this place apart though is how it connects you to this part of Tenerife that most people rush past on their way to bigger towns. Puertito de Güímar has this authentic, lived-in feeling – there’s a little supermarket where the owner will chat with you about the weather in broken English, a couple of family-run restaurants where the fish was swimming that morning, and virtually no cruise ship crowds. The hotel staff pointed me toward this unmarked trail that leads to some fascinating lava tubes (definitely not in any guidebook), and honestly, those kinds of insider tips made the whole stay feel more like visiting friends than just booking a room. The 9.2 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place on the island, but everything they do, they do really well.

  The flat has a well equipped kitchen. With terrasse both in south east direction (sea view) and south west direction we could enjoy the sun the whole day, if we were staying in the flat. The location is ecxellent with 50 m from the shore, 150 m from the bus stop, and absolutely silent during the night.
