Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Mar y Sol on Avenida del Club Nautico de Bajamar, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This little gem sits right in the heart of Bajamar, and if you’re not familiar with this part of La Laguna, it’s got this laid-back coastal vibe that’s completely different from the touristy chaos you’ll find elsewhere on Tenerife.

The hotel itself has that unpretentious charm that actually works in its favor – I mean, you’re not paying resort prices, but you’re getting genuine warmth from the staff and a location that locals would kill for. The rooms are clean and comfortable (nothing fancy, but the beds are surprisingly good), and here’s something I really appreciated: it’s quiet. Like, actually quiet. You’d think being near the nautical club would mean boat noise and crowds, but honestly, it just adds to the authentic feel without the disruption. The morning sounds are more seagulls and gentle waves than traffic, which is rare to find these days. What really sets this place apart is how it connects you to real Tenerife life – you can walk to the natural pools at Bajamar in about five minutes, and let me tell you, those volcanic rock pools are something else entirely. Most tourists never make it out here because they’re stuck in the southern resort bubble, but you’ll be swimming in crystal-clear Atlantic water that’s been naturally filtered through volcanic rock. The hotel staff (who actually seem to enjoy their jobs, which says something) will point you toward the best times to visit when it’s not crowded with local families.

There’s also this great little tapas spot just down the street that the front desk recommended – I never would have found it otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals of the trip. That’s the kind of local knowledge you get when you stay somewhere that’s woven into the actual community rather than isolated from it. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you adjust your expectations – this isn’t luxury, but it’s authentic, well-run, and incredibly well-positioned for exploring the northern part of the island. If you’re the type who values character over thread count and wants to experience Tenerife beyond the typical tourist trail, Mar y Sol delivers in ways that surprised me. Plus, parking is actually manageable here, which anyone who’s driven around the Canary Islands will appreciate more than they should have to.

  I truly enjoyed my stay at Mar y Sol – everything from the check in moment was great. The apartment is beautifully decorated and there is everything you need for a comfortable stay, the kitchen is well equipped. Elizabeth is such a caring and kind host, she was always available and supportive. I would recommend this apartment and I would definitely come back.

  Great location for exploring the north part of the island. Nice terrace with an ocean view. The host Elizabeth is a pleasant person. We arrived at 21 and she met us at home, we used her advice to have dinner at Bajamar center and didn't regret 🙂

  Amazing terrace, we enjoyed working from the terrace when it was sunny. The internet was pretty good for working from there. The nearby town has a couple of restaurants, swimming areas that you can walk into.

  L'appartement est situé au rdc d'un immeuble et possède une belle terrasse bien isolée et ensoleillée. Il est spacieux, très fonctionnel, meublé avec goût, beaucoup de charme. Nous avons été accueillis chaleureusement par la propriétaire. La cuisine est bien équipée. La rue est calme et il est facile d'y garer son véhicule. On peut aller au centre de Bajamar à pied en empruntant un Paseo qui longe les falaises. Adresse à recommander.
