I mean, Palm-Mar itself isn’t exactly the first place tourists think of when they’re planning their Tenerife trip, but that’s sort of the point. This apartment complex sits in what locals call the “real” part of the south coast, where you’ll hear more Spanish than German or English echoing from the balconies.

The apartment itself (A-105 in the Los Balandros building) has this lived-in comfort that’s way better than sterile hotel rooms. The kitchen actually works – like, really works, not just for reheating leftovers – and there’s enough space to spread out without bumping into each other every five minutes. What I loved most was the balcony situation… you get these glimpses of the ocean between the buildings, and in the evenings, well, the whole complex gets this golden light that makes everything look like a postcard. The building’s pretty quiet too, which surprised me given how many families seemed to be staying there. I guess thick walls and tired kids after beach days will do that.

Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really capture – you’re about a ten-minute walk down to the actual Palm-Mar beach area, which has this nice promenade with a handful of restaurants that locals actually eat at. There’s this little Spar supermarket nearby where you can grab basics without tourist markup, and honestly, the whole neighborhood feels refreshingly normal. Parking was easier than I expected too, though I’d still recommend getting there before evening when everyone’s coming back from their day trips. The 9.7 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything just works the way it should. The check-in was smooth, the WiFi didn’t cut out every twenty minutes, and the shower had actual water pressure. Sometimes that’s all you really need, especially when you’re spending most of your time exploring the island anyway.
