Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to La Tortuga Azul C on Calle Beneharo – I mean, the street’s pretty quiet and you might miss the building if you’re not paying attention. But here’s the thing about Puerto de la Cruz: sometimes the best spots are tucked away where the cruise ship crowds don’t think to look. This place gets that philosophy completely.
The location is actually brilliant once you realize what you’re working with. You’re maybe a seven-minute walk from the Playa Jardín (that’s the black sand beach with Martianez’s palm trees, if you haven’t been), but far enough up the hill that you’re not dealing with the beachfront chaos. The building itself has that clean, modern apartment-style setup that works so much better than those massive resort complexes down by the water. What really got me though was how quiet it stays at night – Puerto can get pretty lively, especially during Carnaval season, but Calle Beneharo feels almost residential. You’ll hear the occasional scooter, sure, but nothing like the party noise you get closer to the old town.
The apartments themselves are… well, they’re exactly what you’d want if you’re planning to actually live somewhere for more than just a couple nights. Real kitchens with proper counter space, not those tiny hotel setups where you can barely make coffee. The balconies face different directions depending on which unit you get, but honestly, even the ones without ocean views give you these glimpses of the Teide on clear days – and in Puerto, you know how special those clear days can be with all the cloud cover that rolls in from the Atlantic. I spent way too many mornings just sitting out there with coffee, watching the town wake up below. The whole place has this relaxed energy that matches Puerto’s vibe perfectly – it’s polished enough that you feel like you’re treating yourself well, but not so fancy that you’re afraid to leave sandy flip-flops by the door. Check-in was straightforward, parking’s not a nightmare like it is closer to the port area, and the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the tourist traps on Calle Quintana.
