The hotel itself sits right on Calle Ingeniero Manuel González – and yes, I had to look up how to spell that engineer’s name – but locals just call it “the street down to the port.”

The first thing that hits you walking in is how the place actually feels like someone’s carefully curated home rather than a typical hotel. The owners clearly put thought into every corner, and I’m talking about the kind of details that matter when you’re trying to unwind – like the way the common areas catch this incredible golden light in the evenings, or how they’ve managed to keep things quiet even when the place is full. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star, but it’s the little touches that stick with you. Good water pressure (trust me, this matters after a day hiking), proper blackout curtains, and – this might sound weird – but the beds actually have enough pillows. You’d be surprised how many places get that wrong.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location itself. Puertito de Güímar isn’t some Instagram hotspot, which means you get to experience what feels like authentic Canarian life. There’s this tiny local restaurant about fifty meters from the hotel where the fishermen grab their morning coffee, and the owner will absolutely remember your order by day three. The volcanic coastline here is wild – not your typical sandy beach situation, but these dramatic black rocks and natural pools that are perfect for a morning swim when the Atlantic isn’t being too moody. And honestly? The fact that you can walk to everything means you don’t need to deal with rental car headaches or tourist bus schedules.

The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you spend a night here. It’s not trying to be flashy or oversell itself – it’s just genuinely well-run by people who seem to care about getting the details right. Check-in was smooth, the staff actually knows the area well enough to give you real recommendations (not just the tourist trap stuff), and they’ve somehow managed to create this relaxed atmosphere where you can hear the ocean from most rooms without dealing with party noise from nearby bars. I mean, the most exciting thing that happens after 10 PM is maybe a fishing boat coming back late.

If you’re looking for nightlife and crowded beaches, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to experience Tenerife without feeling like you’re in the middle of a resort complex, and you appreciate places that feel more like a local secret than a tourist destination, La Octava Isla gets it right. Plus, you’re still close enough to the main attractions if you want to do the volcano or the beaches – it’s just nice knowing you have this quiet corner to come back to.

  Wspominamy bardzo miło nasz pobytu w Guimar. Apartament bardzo przyjemny, wyposażony we wszystko czego potrzeba do codziennego życia. Byliśmy z małym dzieckiem i na prośbę dostaliśmy bezpłatnie łóżeczko i krzesełko do karmienia. Codziennie jedliśmy posiłki na dużym tarasie, zasłonięci od słońca. Bardzo dobry kontakt z Jessica, która udostępniła nam apartament zaraz po przyjeździe. Mieliśmy auto i nie było problemu z zaparkowaniem nawet wieczorem. Zawsze jakieś miejsce się znalazło. Do oceanu jest kawałek. Polecamy pobytu w Guimar jeśli chcesz uciec od zgiełku dużego miasta. 🙂

  What could be improved: Lo fría fría que está el agua de la piscina. Es una pena el no poderla aprovechar para nadar. Debería de tener un climatizador en meses desde octubre a febrero. Así no se bañaba nadie de lo fría que estaba.
