Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to La Hacienda Grande, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This little gem sits right on Calle Hacienda Grande, just a stone’s throw from the famous Botanical Garden (El Botanico), and once you’re inside, you totally get why it’s sitting pretty with a 9.2 rating.

The thing about Puerto de la Cruz is that it’s not your typical Tenerife resort town – it’s got this authentic Canarian vibe that the southern beaches just can’t match. La Hacienda Grande actually fits right into that personality. The building itself has this traditional Spanish colonial feel (hence the name, obviously), but they’ve updated it in all the right ways. What really struck me was how quiet it is despite being so close to everything. I mean, you’re literally minutes from the old town center and the gorgeous Playa Jardín, but somehow the hotel feels tucked away from all the tourist chaos. The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work – not in that overly rehearsed way you get at bigger chains, but like they actually want you to discover their corner of the island.

Here’s what nobody tells you about this area: mornings are magical. You’ll wake up to the sound of birds from the botanical garden next door, and if you’re lucky enough to snag a room with a view, you can see the ocean peeking through the lush greenery. The whole CR TF-31 area is perfectly positioned – you’re close enough to walk to the beach promenade where locals do their evening strolls, but far enough from the main drag that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling home at 3 AM. Parking can be a bit tricky in Puerto de la Cruz generally, but they’ve got that sorted for you. And honestly? For a 3-star hotel, the attention to detail surprised me. The rooms are clean and comfortable (not fancy, but who cares when you’re spending most of your time exploring), and the whole place just feels well-maintained. I’ve stayed at plenty of 4-star places that felt more worn down. The location really is the star here though – you’re in this sweet spot where you can easily walk to everything that matters: the natural pools at Punta Brava, the incredible tapas places along Calle Quintana, and those narrow streets in the old quarter where you’ll find the best local coffee. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real, not just another tourist bubble.
