Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in the Canary Islands, but La Finquita Home actually surprised me – and honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot tucked away in Los Menores. You know what though? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you with marble lobbies and fancy nonsense.

The thing about this place is that it feels like someone’s actual home that they’ve opened up to travelers, which I mean… given the name, makes perfect sense. It’s on Calle la Finquita – this quiet residential street where you’ll hear roosters in the morning (yeah, really) and the sound of locals chatting on their balconies in the evening. The whole Los Menores area is sort of off the beaten path, about twenty minutes from the airport if you’re driving, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re not dealing with tourist crowds or overpriced everything, just authentic Canarian life happening around you. Parking was easy enough – there’s space right on the street, which honestly saved me from the headache I usually get trying to navigate rental cars through narrow hotel entrances.

What really got me was the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a smaller property. The rooms have this lived-in comfort – not fancy, but everything actually works properly and there’s clearly thought put into what guests need. The wifi was solid (tested it on multiple video calls), the shower had proper water pressure, and the beds were comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. The hosts – and I use that term because it really feels more like staying with locals than checking into a corporate hotel – genuinely seem to care about whether you’re having a good time. They’ll give you real recommendations, not just point you toward the tourist traps. Actually, they steered me toward this little family-run restaurant about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals of the trip.

The 9.3 rating makes complete sense once you’re there for a day or two. It’s not trying to be something it’s not – you won’t find a spa or room service or any of that stuff – but what it does, it does really well. The value is incredible, especially considering how much you’d pay for something similar closer to the main tourist areas. I stayed during what I thought was peak season and it was still reasonably quiet, though I imagine it fills up when locals know about it. If you’re the type who needs to be within walking distance of nightlife and shopping, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to experience what it’s like to actually live somewhere for a week instead of just visiting it, La Finquita Home gets it right. Plus, you’re still close enough to everything – the coast, hiking trails, proper towns – that you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. Just somewhere real.
