You know what struck me first about La Casona del Patio? The name actually makes sense – there really is this gorgeous central patio that becomes the heart of the whole place. I mean, you walk in and immediately get why they built the entire hotel around it. The building itself has that authentic Canarian charm (this is the real deal, not some modern interpretation), and honestly, being right on La Iglesia street puts you in the thick of Santiago del Teide’s old town without the tourist chaos you’d find closer to the coast.

The thing about this place – and I learned this from chatting with Maria at reception – is that it used to be an actual colonial mansion, which explains why the rooms feel so different from each other. Some have these massive wooden beams overhead, others overlook the internal courtyard where you can actually hear the fountain trickling at night (surprisingly soothing, not annoying). The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but everything works and there’s genuine attention to detail. Like, they’ve got proper thick walls, so you’re not hearing your neighbors, and the Wi-Fi actually reaches the corners of the building – small things that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two.

What really sold me on recommending this place is the location knowledge you get from staying here. Santiago del Teide isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, but that’s kind of the point – you’re perfectly positioned for day trips to Masca (about 20 minutes up the winding road) or Los Gigantes cliffs, but you come back to this quiet, authentic Tenerife town where locals are still doing their evening paseos around the plaza. The hotel staff – well, they’re not just being polite when they give you directions, they actually know the good hiking trails and which restaurants are worth your time. Parking can be a bit tight on the street, but there’s usually space, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you’ll probably want to walk everywhere anyway. The whole place has this relaxed vibe that grows on you – I went for three nights and ended up wishing I’d booked longer.

  The room is spacious and clean, with air conditioning. The late check-in is convenient. Free parking is provided, so there is no need to worry about space. The breakfast is excellent!
  
  What could be improved: The beds are separate and cannot be arranged together. The entrance from the road is a bit small, making it somewhat difficult to recognise when driving at night.

  A very comfortable hotel in the middle of an excellent area for hiking. Great to return to for relaxation. The room was large and very comfortable. The place was quiet and the breakfast set us up for a day's hike.
  
  What could be improved: The menu was not very extensive for vegetarians and the meal we had was OK but we'd exhausted the veggie options after one meal – and both courses were tasty but a bit salty.

  Attractive hotel with very spacious room and bathroom. All erected in wood and glass, elegantly furnished; bathroom all marble. Our room with a huge private terrace. Breakfast very fine and outdoor terrace in the morning sun!
  
  What could be improved: Despite the warnings of other reviewers we decided to have dinner in the hotel, which was a great mistake. Never before I got something to eat that made me want to vomit. As if an entire salt shaker had been overturned. And the grumpy waiter didn't seem to bother at all. The hotel should take more responsibility for this facility.
