Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of beachfront places, but La Casita de la Playa actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. First off, Igueste isn’t your typical tourist trap – it’s this quiet fishing village about 20 minutes from Santa Cruz, tucked into the northeast coast where the mountains literally drop into the ocean. The hotel sits right on Paseo de la Playa (which is basically the only street that matters here), and honestly, when I first pulled up, I thought “this is almost too good to be true.” The building has this warm, terracotta-colored facade that catches the morning light perfectly, and you can hear the waves before you even get out of your car.

What really won me over was how they’ve managed to feel boutique without being pretentious about it. The lobby smells like sea salt and fresh coffee – not some artificial ocean breeze nonsense, but the real deal because the doors stay open most of the day. My room had this incredible view of the black sand beach (yeah, it’s volcanic, so don’t expect white sand postcards), and I mean, I literally watched fishing boats head out at dawn from my bed. The balcony furniture actually looked like someone cared about comfort, not just Instagram photos. You know what’s funny? They have these thick curtains that I initially thought were overkill, but man, when the sun hits that eastern exposure around 6 AM, you’ll be grateful. The whole place feels like someone’s well-appointed beach house rather than a hotel – there’s personality in the tile work, the local artwork isn’t just generic prints, and the staff genuinely seems to know the area instead of just reading from scripts.

Here’s the thing about Igueste that makes this place special: it’s still authentically Canarian. You’ve got Playa de Antequera right there, which locals use but tourists rarely find, and the hiking trails into the Anaga Mountains start basically from the hotel’s back door. I spent one morning walking to the lighthouse (about 15 minutes along the coast), and another day I drove up into the laurel forests – both felt like discovering secrets. The hotel’s restaurant sources from local fishermen, and I’m not just saying that for effect; I watched them unload the catch one afternoon. Parking is actually manageable here, unlike most coastal spots, and the whole village has maybe three restaurants and one tiny market, so you’re not dealing with crowds or noise after sunset. The 9.2 rating makes sense when you consider that this isn’t trying to be everything to everyone – it’s a four-star place that knows exactly what it does well. If you want nightlife and shopping, stay in Santa Cruz. But if you want to wake up to fishing boats and mountains, then fall asleep to actual waves instead of traffic, this is your spot.

We had the perfect stay. Having the pool, the barbeque and terraces was amazing. It was also nice and quiet and a great starting point for hikes.

The house itself is small but nicely decorated, you have a jacuzzi outside, terrace, barbeque, an equipped kitchen / bathroom, so it can be pretty comfortable….for a couple, definitely for a couple.
If you want to be remote and not move from the property, this might be the right choice for you, otherwise check by other comments 🙂
