Hotel Description
So I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Kn Hotel Arenas del Mar, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s right there on Avenida de Europa, which is basically the main strip through El Médano, and from the street it looks like, well, just another beachfront hotel. But here’s the thing about this place that actually surprised me: it gets the whole adults-only vibe right without being stuffy about it.
The location is pretty much perfect if you’re into windsurfing or kitesurfing – and honestly, that’s half the reason people end up in El Médano anyway. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Playa de El Médano, and I mean the good part of the beach where the wind picks up nicely in the afternoons. The hotel sits close enough that you can hear the waves from some rooms (which I actually found relaxing, though light sleepers might want to mention this when booking). What’s clever is how they’ve designed the pool area – it’s sheltered from that constant Tenerife wind that can make lounging by the water a bit of a challenge elsewhere on the island. I spent way more time there than I planned, just because it felt like this calm pocket while you could see the kitesurfers getting tossed around just beyond the hotel.
The rooms are… look, they’re solid four-star standard, nothing that’ll blow your mind but everything works and the beds are actually comfortable. The air conditioning keeps up with the heat, which isn’t always a given in Canary Islands hotels, and the bathrooms have decent water pressure. I stayed on the third floor facing the ocean and could see Montaña Roja – that distinctive red mountain that basically defines El Médano’s skyline – from my balcony. Check-in was smooth, staff spoke good English and Spanish obviously, and they seemed to know their stuff about local restaurants and surf conditions.
Here’s what I really appreciated though: this place doesn’t try to be some massive resort complex. It’s more like a well-run beach hotel that happens to have a pool and decent restaurant. The breakfast spread was better than I expected – proper Spanish ham, fresh fruit, and they make a solid café con leche. Dinner at their restaurant was good enough that I didn’t feel like I had to venture out every night, though honestly, El Médano has some great little tapas places within walking distance if you want to explore.
The whole adults-only thing means it stays pretty chill – no screaming kids in the pool, conversations don’t get drowned out by chaos, and the atmosphere stays relaxed even when it’s busy. I was there in late September and it felt nicely occupied but not packed. Parking was easy, which is actually worth mentioning because some hotels in this area make you hunt for street spots. Would I go back? Yeah, probably. It’s one of those places that just works – nothing fancy, but they’ve figured out how to make a comfortable beach hotel that doesn’t feel like you’re staying in a generic resort bubble.
