Hotel Description
You know what? I almost drove right past Kiki vivienda the first time I visited – it sits quietly on Calle Pedro García Cabrera, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This isn’t some flashy resort screaming for attention; it’s more like staying at your Spanish aunt’s house, if your aunt happened to have impeccable taste and actually cared about making you comfortable.
The whole Los Cardones area has this authentic Tenerife vibe that most tourists completely miss. You’re in San Isidro, which means you’re close enough to the airport that you’re not dealing with those crazy winding mountain roads when you arrive (trust me, after a long flight, this matters), but far enough away that you won’t hear planes overhead. The neighborhood itself is pretty residential – you’ll see locals walking their dogs in the evening and kids playing in the small parks nearby. There’s a little bakery about two blocks down that opens ridiculously early, and the smell of fresh bread sort of drifts through the area in the mornings.
What really got me about Kiki vivienda was how Maria (the owner) actually remembers your name and asks about your plans. I mean, it’s a small place, so maybe that’s easier to do, but she genuinely seems to care whether you find that hiking trail you mentioned or if you need directions to the less touristy beaches. The breakfast – and this is important because some B&Bs phone it in – actually features local stuff. Fresh fruit that’s clearly from the island, not some imported nonsense, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting in a pot since 2019. The dining area overlooks this little courtyard where they’ve got some serious green thumb action going on with tropical plants that I definitely can’t pronounce.
The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable, though if you’re expecting a luxury resort experience, you’re in the wrong place. Think more along the lines of a really well-maintained family home. The beds are actually good – I’m picky about this because I have a bad back – and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be dealing with temperamental plumbing. There’s decent Wi-Fi throughout, which honestly surprised me given how many places in the Canary Islands still treat internet like it’s optional. Street parking is usually available right outside, and Maria will tell you which spots are safe to leave your rental car overnight.
The location is perfect if you’re planning to explore different parts of Tenerife without committing to staying in the touristy south or the busier north. You’re about fifteen minutes from some really beautiful coastal walks, and it’s an easy drive to both the Teide National Park and the more authentic towns up in the hills. What I appreciated most was that staying here felt like I was actually in Spain, not in some international tourist bubble. You’ll hear Spanish conversations, see how locals live, and get recommendations for places that aren’t in every guidebook. For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight – that 8.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there.
