Hotel Description

You know, I’ve walked past the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey dozens of times on Dr. José Naveiras – it’s actually impossible to miss with that classic colonial facade that somehow manages to look both grand and welcoming at the same time. The building itself has this old-world charm that honestly makes most of the newer hotels around Santa Cruz look pretty generic in comparison. When you’re staying here, you’re literally in the heart of everything that matters in the city, which I mean, can be a blessing and a curse depending on what you’re after.

The thing that really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Canarian elegance without making it feel like a museum you’re afraid to touch. The lobby has these gorgeous traditional tiles and dark wood that actually smell like proper polish (not that artificial lemon stuff), and the staff – well, they genuinely seem to know the city inside and out. I’ve had concierges here recommend little tapas spots that even my local friends hadn’t heard of, tucked away in the side streets behind the hotel. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 5-star – spacious, well-appointed, and mercifully quiet considering you’re right in the city center. The soundproofing is actually impressive because Santa Cruz can get pretty lively, especially during carnival season when the whole city basically turns into one massive party.

What really sold me on this place though is the attention to detail that you don’t notice until you’ve been there a few days. The housekeeping is spot-on without being intrusive, the restaurant serves genuinely good Canarian cuisine (not the watered-down tourist version), and honestly, the pool area feels like a proper oasis when you need a break from exploring the city. Plus, you’re a five-minute walk from the main shopping streets and maybe ten minutes from the port if you’re catching ferries to the other islands. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of town, but the hotel sorts that out for you – which, trust me, is worth its weight in gold if you’ve ever tried to navigate Santa Cruz traffic during rush hour. The 8.9 rating makes total sense because this isn’t just a place to sleep; it’s actually a base camp for experiencing Tenerife the way it should be experienced, with a bit of luxury and a lot of local character.

  • Marietta from Netherlands (9/10)

The architecture of the building, the pool (I believe it’s heated), the location (opposite a park, close to the city center and not too far from the beach) but most importantly, the staff and in particular Klaudia from Los Laureles.

  • Larry from United States (8/10)

For being in city center, hotel has extensive outdoor grounds, pools, green space and turtle pond. Adjacent to beautiful city park , las ramblas, bus stops and walking to Port area.

  • Garry from United Kingdom (9/10)

  • Rodrigo from Portugal (9/10)

I allways stay in this hotel when I come to Tenerife. I pretty much like everything from the place. The buulding itself is a beautiful piece of architecture very well preserved. The rooms are comfortavel, the gym is very complete and being open air is super pleasant. The breakfast is outstanding.

Did not have breakfast at the hotel as extortionate price when there are so any cafes you can have breakfast for a 1/4 of the price.
