Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Rural Victoria? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Hermano Apolinar – that most tourists never even notice when they’re rushing through La Orotava to hit the main plaza. I mean, that’s actually perfect because you get all the charm of this gorgeous colonial town without the tour bus crowds right outside your window.

The building itself has that authentic Canarian feel – none of that fake rustic stuff you see at some places. The wooden balconies are real, weathered the right way, and from certain rooms you can actually catch glimpses of Teide lurking behind the old houses. The check-in was refreshingly normal too – no overly eager staff trying to upsell you on everything, just straightforward and friendly. Parking can be a bit tricky (honestly, it’s La Orotava, so what do you expect?), but there are spots nearby if you’re patient. The rooms are clean and comfortable – not fancy, but they’ve got character. The floors creak a little in that old-building way that somehow feels cozy rather than annoying, and the windows actually open properly, which is more than I can say for some places.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location puts you right in the heart of real La Orotava life. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Plaza de la Constitución, where locals actually hang out, not just tourists taking photos. The narrow streets around there are perfect for wandering, and you’ll stumble across little family-run restaurants that don’t even have websites. If you’re into hiking (and honestly, why else would you stay in La Orotava?), you’re incredibly well-positioned for the trails up toward the pine forests. Plus, you can walk to the botanical gardens without breaking a sweat, which is surprisingly rare for hotels in this area – most are either too far up the hill or stuck down by the highway. The morning sounds are lovely too – church bells, not traffic, and you can hear the real rhythm of a Spanish town waking up. It’s not a luxury resort, obviously, but for the price point and that 8.6 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel like I was actually experiencing La Orotava rather than just passing through it.

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Roger from United Kingdom – 5 June 2025 (10/10)

I didn't have or need much breakfast but it was good and I was very well attended.

  • The stay was overall so wonderful I even extended for two more nights! – Jing from Canada – 24 April 2025 (9/10)

The view from the room and the rooftop was amazing – can see the mountain, town, and ocean! The hotel is historic and charming. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is also very convenient for accessing old town.

What could be improved: The building is old so sound insulation isn't the best when there are people talking loudly in the public area.

  • We enjoyed our stay very much. Everything was as I expected, as I had seen the hotel on a previouse visit to the town an – Freeman-wright from United Kingdom – 16 April 2025 (9/10)

Nothing to dislike, possibly some milk sachets in fridge.
Shame we didn’t get to try restaurant as it was closed Monday, which was the night we stayed.

  • Recommend – Cornelius from Belgium – 6 April 2025 (9/10)

It met all our expectations, but we only booked for one night: no opportunity to fully enjoy the terrace… We tried to return, but fully booked … for good reasons!

    What could be improved: N/a

  • Authentic, peaceful and great views of old rooftops from the terrace – Kphilips from United Kingdom – 19 March 2025 (9/10)

A hotel that's authentic, done with simplicity and very peaceful for a town location. Honestly refeshing to be in hotel which is not overdone and retains its well-earnt stylish age. Breakfast is very simple but ample – choices of fruits, breads, yoghurts, juices and offer of cooked eggs & bacon. I ate in the hotel's restaurant one evening and it was very tasty (check opening hours and days. It is displayed on the door).

What could be improved: For me personally the stay was exactly what I expected and more. I felt really at home and wanted a simple stay that was away from some of the more hussle bustle areas of Tenerife. I cannot recommend La Orotava enough. I used public transport all week, incl to/from Tenerife Sur airport. Parking in La Orotava could be challenging. The main La Orotava bus station is a fast 10, easy 15 min walk away (uphill on the way) for frequent walkers and you can go past both Botanical and Quinta Roja gardens en route. I took a taxi home one late night from Puerto de la Cruz centre which cost 17Euros.

  • Excellent location / very comfortable beds and very good breakfast included . – Janet from United Kingdom – 2 March 2025 (9/10)

It had a comfortable vibe , an older property full of character with the dining room in the courtyard

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Superb – Michaela from Czech Republic – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful historical building, great location, very helpful staff

What could be improved: Parking on the street in front of hotel, minor repairs in the bathroom needed.

  • Exceptional – Grace from Ireland – 21 February 2025 (10/10)

Hotel full of character, very helpful staff and superb location.

What could be improved: The coffee at breakfast, but the rest of the meal was very good.

  • Exceptional – Veranika from Poland – 15 February 2025 (10/10)

Very hospitable stuff, nice city, comfortable rooms, very delicious breakfast!

  • Gracious, welcoming historic hotel – Dr from United Kingdom – 12 February 2025 (10/10)

The whole atmosphere! The staff and room were warming and gracious; breakfast was great.

What could be improved: As a solo traveller only eating 1 breakfast it would have been nice to have a reduction – the room was expensive with no single rate.
