Hotel Description
So I stumbled across Hotel Rural San Miguel completely by accident – was driving through San Miguel de Abona looking for a different place entirely and honestly, I’m glad I got lost. This adults-only spot sits right on Las Morales street, which sounds fancy but it’s actually this quiet little road that most tourists never find. The whole area feels like the Tenerife that existed before Instagram, you know what I mean?
The thing that gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep it feeling authentically Canarian without falling into that tourist trap nonsense. You’ll notice it the moment you walk in – there’s this old-world charm that doesn’t feel forced or staged. The staff actually remembers your name after day one (I mean, it helps that it’s adults-only so things stay pretty civilized), and they know the area well enough to point you toward the local spots that matter. Like, they’ll tell you exactly when to hit the Mercadillo de San Miguel market – Thursday mornings, by the way, before 10 AM when the good stuff’s still there.
What really sold me was the peace and quiet. San Miguel de Abona sits in this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to the action but far enough from the chaos of the southern resorts. The hotel’s got that rural vibe going on – hence the name, obviously – but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. It’s maybe fifteen minutes to the coast if you want beaches, but honestly, some evenings I just stayed put on their terrace with a glass of local wine, watching the sunset paint the mountains. The acoustics are interesting here too – during the day you’ll hear birds and maybe some distant farm sounds, but at night it gets properly quiet. None of that late-night party noise you get in places like Playa de las Américas.
The rooms are solid – not fancy in a flashy way, but comfortable and thoughtfully done. They’ve got this rustic-meets-modern thing figured out, and the beds are actually good (you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong). Parking’s easy, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling luggage around. Check-in was smooth too, no drama or waiting around.
I’ve got to be honest though – this isn’t the place if you want a resort experience with pools and entertainment and all that. It’s more for people who want to explore the real Tenerife, maybe do some hiking in the hills, visit the local bodegas, that sort of thing. The location puts you right in the path of some excellent walking trails, and you’re close enough to Vilaflor if you want to venture into the pine forests.
The 8.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, and it delivers on what it promises. Four stars feels right too. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because it just… works. No stress, no pretense, just a well-run hotel in a part of Tenerife that still feels genuine.

This hotel is true pearl! It is located perfect distance from South Airport and Los Cristianos. Hotel has sauna (!) and very cosy courtyard. Also the history of this complex is very interesting – so please take time to have a look on the history books and photos which you can ask from the reception. The staff is so kind. We felt like we were at home 🙂
