Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Hotel RF San Borondon when I first spotted it on Agustín Espinosa street – honestly, the name’s a bit of a mouthful and three stars in Puerto de la Cruz can be hit or miss. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The location is pretty clever, actually – you’re tucked away from the main tourist chaos but still just a quick walk to Plaza del Charco where all the action happens. I mean, you can literally hear the waves from some of the rooms, and there’s something about falling asleep to that Atlantic sound that just works, you know?
The building itself has this sort of understated Canarian charm – not trying too hard to be fancy, but clean and well-maintained in a way that makes you feel like the owners actually care. The lobby smells faintly of that traditional mopping solution they use everywhere in Spain (weirdly comforting if you’ve spent time here), and the staff behind the desk genuinely seem to know the area. They pointed me toward this little bakery on Calle Quintana that I never would’ve found otherwise – proper local bread, not the tourist stuff. The rooms are comfortable enough, though don’t expect luxury – we’re talking functional furniture and decent beds, but the real winner is stepping out onto those small balconies in the evening when the town starts to come alive. Puerto de la Cruz gets this golden hour thing happening where the light bounces off the black volcanic coastline, and honestly, that view alone justifies the stay.
What I really appreciated was how the hotel sits in the actual rhythm of the town rather than some isolated bubble. You’ll hear the morning deliveries, the neighborhood cats having their drama, and the gentle hum of locals heading to work – it’s real life, not some sanitized vacation version. The 8.1 rating makes total sense to me because while it’s not going to blow your mind with amenities, it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to Puerto de la Cruz), but there’s usually space on the side streets if you’re patient. Check-in was smooth, and they seemed genuinely happy to have guests rather than just going through the motions. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you’re the type who wants to experience Puerto de la Cruz like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through with a camera.

The location is excellent, 5 minutes walk from the bus station, about 10 minutes to the beach and slightly further into the town. The room had everything I needed.

Spacious rooms and it was nice quiet and relaxing
Ian from Spain (9/10)
Our second time here. Brilliant staff, brilliant breakfast choice and quality. An all round example of superb value for money. We had a lovely room with a newly refurbished bathroom. It's an easy walk to the Bus station if you want to use the excellent bus service, including the Airport shuttle to Los Rodeos ( North) costing 4.75 euros per person!!
Indre from Denmark (7/10)
The property offers delicious dinners, comfortable beds, and a tranquil setting in a convenient location.
Johann from Iceland (7/10)
A dated establishment and in dire need of some renovation. Breakfast was very good and the staff was friendly.
