Hotel Description
Hotel Monopol sits right on Quintana street in Puerto de la Cruz, and honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better spot if you’re the type who likes to actually experience a place rather than just Instagram it. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the town center and all those winding cobblestone streets that make Puerto de la Cruz feel like the real Canary Islands – not some resort bubble.
The thing about this place is that it’s refreshingly unpretentious. Yeah, it’s a three-star hotel, but it knows what it is and does it well. The lobby has this sort of classic Spanish feel without trying too hard, and the staff actually remembers your name after a day or two (which is rarer than you’d think these days). The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but you’ve got good Wi-Fi, decent air conditioning, and windows that actually open if you want to hear the street life below. Speaking of which, Quintana can get a bit lively in the evenings, especially on weekends when the locals are out, but it’s not obnoxiously loud. Just… alive, you know? Though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs.
What really sold me on the Monopol was how it puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist trap markup. You can walk to Playa Jardín in about ten minutes – and trust me, that black volcanic sand beach is worth the short stroll. The Lago Martiánez pools are even closer if you prefer something more controlled than Atlantic waves. But honestly, the best part is being able to duck into any of the family-run tapas places within a block or two. There’s this little bar just around the corner where the locals go for their evening vermouth, and the owner’s been there for like thirty years. You won’t find that kind of authenticity if you’re stuck in some all-inclusive resort up in the hills. The hotel doesn’t have parking, but there’s a public lot nearby that’s not too expensive, and honestly, you barely need a car once you’re settled in – everything’s walkable or a quick bus ride away. For what you pay, especially during shoulder season, it’s actually a pretty solid deal in a town where location really matters.

Very good value for money..Central location….old colonial style hotel. Would stay again.
Very good – Fiona from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (8/10)
Great central location with lots of places to eat nearby. Our room was lovely with a balcony overlooking the church and square. Breakfast was good too, lots of choice including cooked breakfast.
Lovely hotel with character in a great location with attentive staff. – Maureen from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (9/10)
The location is perfect -right in the centre of town. We stayed in room 139 which had a balcony and sea view. The room was at the back of the hotel and it was quiet. The beds were comfortable. The property was clean and the staff more than helpful. It also has a small fridge for storing water, juice and nibbles.
What could be improved: A kettle with tea and coffee would have been lovely. There was sometimes a toilet smell but I think this might have been a recent issue with the sewers as it was apparent elsewhere. Was too short, should have booked more nights – David from United Kingdom – 29 April 2025 (9/10)
Its location and authenticity
What could be improved: Bathroom could do with an updatevery enjoyable – Catriona from Spain – 27 April 2025 (9/10)
balcony overlooking the church, good hot shower. Tasca Don Carlos
What could be improved: Coffee and tea were not good and bacon/eggs very greasy. rest of what was on offer was great.Superb – Jacqueline from United Kingdom – 19 April 2025 (9/10)
Staff very friendky
What could be improved: NothingThoroughly enjoyable – Edward from United Kingdom – 12 April 2025 (9/10)
Charming and old worldly in a central setting. Helpful staff, nice twin room, great buffet breakfast and leafy common areas. For guests who have to check out early (e.g. at 6am), it might be nice to have something small provided ahead of the journey.
Absolutly great in beautiful town. We will defenetly be back one day. – Berglind from Iceland – 20 March 2025 (9/10)
We stayed at recent renewed studio at top floor, were you find huge terrace with sunbeds and umbrellas, and a view to the see and over the nice swimming pool area. Very clean and well equipped, including Nespresso machine that we loved. The location is excellent and we loved all the musicians playing on the street and we could enjoy from our balcany, which was always sunny. The view to the mountains were stunning as well as the view to the main walking street in town. The church bells were also nice. Free car park by the harbour in 5 minutes walk, we always found an excellent parking and no problem to walk with the luggage this short distance. The breakfast offered all we needed.
What could be improved: It would be nice to have the sauna open by 10:00 and closed around 19:00/20:00, instead of opening hours from 12:00-18:00Lovely old hotel with excellent staff. – Mervyn from United Kingdom – 20 March 2025 (9/10)
Wonderful staff, wonderful old-style building with plenty of character and charm.
Excellent position, right in the pedestrianised heart of the old town.
What could be improved: WiFi. Poor reception in our room and in the patio area.Superb – Alasdair from United Kingdom – 17 March 2025 (9/10)
Really pleasant hotel with good sized room plus terrace and comfy bed. Located in the most attractive part of town. Receptiinists very helpful and super breakfast buffer
What could be improved: Nothing bad except I wudh the room could be darker at bed time.
