Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest with you – Hotel Casa del Sol isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s exactly what you need in Puerto de la Cruz, and here’s why that matters. The place sits right on Finlandia street, which honestly is one of those quiet residential roads that most tourists walk past without noticing. But that’s actually perfect because you’re literally a three-minute stroll from the buzzing Plaza del Charco (where all the action happens at night), yet you won’t hear drunk British tourists singing at 2 AM.
The hotel itself feels like someone’s well-maintained family home that got converted – and I mean that in the best way possible. The lobby has this sort of lived-in charm with local artwork that actually looks like it was chosen by someone who cares, not just grabbed from a hotel supply catalog. Check-in was surprisingly smooth when I arrived around 4 PM on a Tuesday, though I’ve heard weekends can get a bit chaotic with the ferry crowds from Tenerife Sur. The rooms are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but the beds are decent and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which you know can be hit or miss in older Canarian buildings. What really won me over was the little balcony in my room that looked out toward the mountains rather than the street. You get these glimpses of the pine forests creeping down the volcanic slopes, especially beautiful in the morning light.
The staff genuinely knows the area, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about hiking up to the Martianez area, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the touristy coastal path – he actually sketched out a route through the residential streets that cuts fifteen minutes off the walk and takes you past this incredible viewpoint that overlooks the Orotava Valley. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t Google. Parking can be tricky since it’s an older part of town with narrow streets, but there’s usually space on the side streets if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after dinner time, which means you’ll actually sleep well – something I definitely can’t say about the beachfront hotels where the waves crash all night. Sure, it’s a three-star place and it shows in little ways (no fancy toiletries, breakfast is basic continental stuff), but the location gives you authentic Puerto de la Cruz without paying resort prices. You’re close enough to walk to the natural pools at Martianez, the botanical gardens, and those tiny local bars tucked into the old quarter where they serve wine from unmarked bottles and know everyone’s name.

Reviews
Nice hotel could have been 10 out 10 but just a bit more effort needed to – Peter from Spain – 24 June 2025 (8/10)
Breakfast was good plenty of choice but on my last morning they said I had to go to another hotel about 5km
away the kitchen was broken a lame excuse they couldn't be bothered opening up the kitchen for me wasn't offered a refund or a cold breakfast I would have given them more if it wasn't for that
The swimming pool was on the roof and was heated that was a pleasant surprise very nice
What could be improved: Very steep hill going to town no problem on the way back you better be fit. The hospital is nearby in case you collapse. A taxi is about €5 factor that into your costYou get what you pay for – Quiet, old style hotel at a reasonable price, outside of the centre – Makelifehappen from United Kingdom – 10 June 2025 (7/10)
This was my second visit to this hotel. It's out of the way and quiet, which is what I was looking for. The price is reasonable for what you get ie a private room with a kitchen and a balcony. The room was clean.
What could be improved: The receptionist put me in the wrong type of room ie with a balcony looking directly at an internal wall, smaller than what I had paid for and was particularly rundown. As I wasn't feeling well when I arrived, I didn't do anything about it as I just needed to rest (my plan had been to sit on the balcony and recover). Later I looked at my booking, as I had originally been planning to reserve an additional night here (until I this happened). Upon checking it and the pictures/description, it was clear that I wasn't in the right type of room. I then returned to reception at around 10pm to inform them. A different receptionist was working and seemed shocked as to why the first one had put me in this room (the key card slip actually had a different number on it which the first receptionist had crossed out and changed). The new guy apologised and instantly gave me a key for another room. The correct room was larger, with less worn interior and a balcony with a view of the mountains and sea (the same as the first time I had stayed).Good deal between price and service – Ilaria from Italy – 10 June 2025 (8/10)
The hotel is quiet, very clean, and the reception is open 24 hours. The small kitchen in our mini flat, number 102, was well equipped — except for a wine opener.
What could be improved: In our room internet was a bit slow but we didn’t need it.Very reasonable and comfortable stay in Puerto – Ross from United Kingdom – 8 May 2025 (7/10)
The pool and sun terrace
What could be improved: NothingVery good – Suskisusa from Spain – 26 March 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: The swimmingpool wasn't heated enought.
Solo Adventure – Caroline from Ireland – 25 March 2025 (7/10)
Was up the hill but 10min down into the square, taxis easily available for less than 4 euro to bring you back. Its basic as you'dexpect for 3 star, but , quiet , very clean establishment cleaners around every day, pool was good and food served there aswell, , ideal for March but if was really warm remember you don't have air conditioning, my room had a little walled terrace, mini market literally within 200 metres of the hotel , and a fabolous cafe within 5 mins walk
What could be improved: The water in morning was below Luke warm for a shower, no electric kettle in room ,only a coffee makerGood location close to Taoro Park – Nicolae from Romania – 6 March 2025 (8/10)
Good location close to Taoro Park
Room space was good,
Bad was comfortable
Food choice provided for breakfast are basic but cover everything
What could be improved: Property is not in the best condition and with some investments the hotel can be a pearl, the most unpleasant part is the fact that they don't have parking and don't provide one (booking advertise parking for this location) first day i had found parking location close to hotel, second day was hard to find one)Overhall, enjoyed my stay and would return. – Phillip from United Kingdom – 5 March 2025 (8/10)
Location and cleanliness.
What could be improved: Pool bar didn’t open until 1.30ish so couldn’t even get a coffee when around pool. Also there were not enough umbrellas around pool area to protect from sun, and the 4 they had were old and falling to bits.Very good – Caroline from United Kingdom – 13 February 2025 (8/10)
Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, nice balcony, breakfast, roof top bar and cafe
What could be improved: Could have had a kettle or smaller pot for boiling water. Scrambled eggs occasionally would have been nice. Restaurant wasn't open. The hill! Need to tell people about the hill.Very good – Michał from Poland – 5 October 2024 (8/10)
Swimming pool at the roof, big room.
What could be improved: Parties at the swimming pool after 10pm.
No kettle. Sponge to wash dishes is paid at the reception. Self service laundry is also paid.
No basic spices at kitchenette.
