You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hotel Best Semiramis on Leopoldo Cologan Zulueta – honestly, the name sounds like something from a Roman epic, which made me wonder if it would be all flash and no substance. But walking into that lobby, I immediately got why this place has held onto its five-star status in Puerto de la Cruz for so long. The whole vibe is sophisticated without being stuffy, if that makes sense. It’s got this understated elegance that feels genuinely Spanish rather than cookie-cutter international hotel chain.

The location is actually pretty brilliant – you’re tucked away in the La Paz urbanization, which means you get the peace and quiet (hence the name, I suppose) but you’re still close enough to walk down to the old town center when you want some action. I mean, it’s maybe a fifteen-minute stroll to Plaza del Charco if you don’t mind a little hill, though honestly most people just grab a taxi or rental car. The real genius is how they’ve positioned the property – you get these incredible views of the Atlantic without being right on top of the tourist chaos that happens closer to the waterfront. The pool area especially takes advantage of this… you can actually hear the waves from the terrace on quiet mornings, which is pretty magical with your coffee.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail – and I don’t mean fancy toiletries (though those are nice too). The staff genuinely seems to know the island, not just the hotel. When I asked about hiking trails, the concierge didn’t just hand me a brochure – he sketched out a route to some viewpoints that locals use, complete with warnings about which paths get muddy after rain. The rooms are spacious by European standards, with that solid, well-maintained feeling you want in a five-star place. Air conditioning actually works properly (you’d be surprised how often this isn’t the case in the Canaries), and the beds are firm enough that you won’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand. There’s this subtle volcanic rock accent work throughout the property that reminds you you’re on Tenerife without beating you over the head with it. The restaurant leans heavily into Canarian specialties – their papas arrugadas are legitimately some of the best I’ve had on the island, and the wine list shows off some excellent local vintages that you probably won’t find at the resort hotels down the coast. Sure, it’s pricier than some options, but for the quality and that perfect balance of relaxation and accessibility to Puerto de la Cruz’s charms, it’s worth it.

  View excellent. The lobby and public places ware rerewed and very nice. Breakfast was rich and nice and the view from the dining room and from all the hotel is stunning. right to the ocean. Staff was friendly and very helpfull with information and advise at all hours.

  The hotel is lovely with fantastic views but it is very noisy with the waves hitting the rocks down below, didnt bother me but my partner was kept awake until he go used to it.
  The food was very nice, we only had breakfast but there was everything you could have wanted and more, even rose cava, if you like a drink at breakfast.
  They could put some more sunbeds out were the sunshines as quiet a lot where in the shade.
  The entertainment was ok, some better than others.
  The balconies dont get any sun on them and all the rooms are sea views, the sun is round the other side of the hotel.

  We spent about a week at the hotel, and the stay was very pleasant and peaceful. The hotel is located on a cliff with a stunning panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and about a fifteen-minute walk along the beach from the center. The room is not modern designed, but it is large, the bed is extra large and comfortable and the view from the balcony is stunning. The hotel has pools, a gym, a reading room and sitting corners .
  The hotel staff is courteous, doing everything they can to be helpful to guests. The dining room has a relatively good variety of food, including cheeses, cold cuts, and vegetables and more.

  The location was fabulous. The entire hotel was spotlessly clean with comfortable sitting out areas both inside and outside. The rooms were very large and the beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows if you needed them. All the staff were friendly and personable from the initial reception to check out. Good customer service was obviously in their DNA! The food was attractive and delicious with plenty of choice at all meal times. Prior to going I had seen some poor reviews about the food choice, but in my experience this was a total nonsense and cannot conceive what those reviewers were talking about. Thank you to the Best Hotel Group and in particular to the Semiramis management and team of staff.

  Room was nice and clean only issue was AC was not working and room got pretty warm during the days and nights, so had to sleep with door open to the outside to try and cool it down. Pool and bar staff and service was really nice and helpful.
