Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Santa Cruz, and this Home2Book apartment honestly surprised me in the best way. When I first walked in, I was expecting another basic rental – you know how these online listings can be – but the design element in the name actually means something here. The space feels intentionally put together, not like someone just threw some IKEA furniture around and called it a day.

What really got me was the location. You’re right in the heart of Santa Cruz, which means you can actually walk to the good stuff – I’m talking about those little tapas bars on Calle Castillo that the cruise ship crowds never find, and you’re maybe ten minutes from the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África if you want to grab fresh produce or just soak up some local chaos. The apartment sits in one of those typical Canarian buildings, so there’s character but also street noise – honestly, it’s part of the charm, though light sleepers might want to pack earplugs. I mean, you’re in Spain, things get lively.

The apartment itself is what I’d call smart design rather than fancy – everything works, the kitchen actually has decent cookware (which is rarer than it should be), and the shower has proper water pressure. Little things like that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple nights. The WiFi held up fine for video calls, and there’s AC that actually cools the place down, which you’ll appreciate during summer months when Santa Cruz can get pretty steamy. Parking can be a bit of a dance in this neighborhood – there’s street parking but you’ll be circling sometimes, especially in the evenings when locals are getting home from work. I ended up using the public garage a few blocks away more than once, but that’s just city life here.

What I really appreciated was how the place felt lived-in rather than sterile. The owner clearly put thought into making it functional for actual travelers, not just Instagram-worthy. You’ve got proper closet space, a table where you can actually eat (not just a tiny café table), and the bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with it all night. The building itself is quiet during the day, gets a bit more animated in the evenings – again, you’re in a real neighborhood where people actually live.

For a 3-star place, it punches above its weight, and that 8 rating feels about right. It’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtful and well-executed. If you’re the type who wants to experience Santa Cruz like you actually live there for a week, rather than just passing through, this place gets it right. You’ll find yourself picking up groceries at the little shops nearby, maybe grabbing coffee at the bar downstairs in the morning, actually settling in rather than just crashing somewhere between tourist attractions.

    Good location, fully-equipped kitchen except from microwawe oven, convenient beds, washing machine, hair dryer, iron, well designed rooms

    What could be improved: One security man was quite rude at the entrance, he actually requested us to have a magnetic key to the entrance door which we didn’t get as we were not residents. After we explained that we are tourists he made faces.
    Some parts of the flat and was very worn and needed renovation.
    At least half of the view from all the windows was on an oil refinery and a huge car park. Theese parts are “misteriously” missing from all the pictures on booking website. The place was very noisy because of the heavy traffic and night life.

    The apartment is very spacious and cozy. And the view from a window! Stunning!

    Location is also good – very close to the nearest supermarket Mercadona or famous Mercado Ntra. Señora de África – around 15 minutes by walk. Teide park – just 1 hour by car.

    Self check-in with easy, precise description, the staff is very nice and helpful 🙂 We had a really wonderful time there.

    What could be improved: There was very low water pressure in the shower.

    The flat is nice, well equipped, and has a beautiful view, the location is good, there's a shopping mall nearby, center is 20 min by walking, plenty of parking spots.

    What could be improved: The place is noisy because it's right next to the road.
    The air conditioning in the bedroom wasn't working.
    I had a kind of fight for towels. We stayed one week and got only 2 towels for 2 people. I texted the property, and the first reply was that they couldn't provide towels after I insisted, so they brought us more.
    The washing machine was out of service, but nobody informed us, but we were offered compensation for the laundry service if we do it somewhere else. At the end of our stay, they installed the new washing machine.
    The problem is that you get texts from different employees. I had an impression that they were texting me all the time for towels, for broken machine, for the delivery of the new one, for its installation.

    Love the flat position, near the Recinto ferial where we went to a concert, close to the city center by foot and to the main bus station, so you can travel to other parts of the island. The apartment was in a safe area, very clean and spacious with all needed amenities. Great communication with the host.

    What could be improved: Everything was nice. Maybe a bit small for 4 people, but for a few nights it is perfect.

  • Moldy Damages; broken appliances; worn down vs Stunning Design! Time for a reno! – Christine from Canada – 13 March 2025 (3/10)

    The location was great for access to parking, parks, entertainment, highways, shopping, groceries, and some restaurants. Also, very easy walk to old town. It was comfortable and in a safe area.

    The security guards were very pleasant and helpful.

    The washing machine and spice selection in the kitchen were a bonus.

    What could be improved: The apartment was damaged upon arrival from a previous water infiltration, most likely from the air conditioner. We arrived with a doorway full of mold and water damaged floor, doors, and walls. Though dry, there was mold. The A/C was full of dust and grease, hence the problem. We spent the first hours upon arrival cleaning the 2 A/C's and disinfecting the mold.

    The next morning we contacted Home2Book and Booking for assistance. Long story, but a week later, we had lots of apologies and empathy, but no technician to repair the area. So, we sealed the moldy area, kept it disinfected, texted or called daily, then gave up. There were no other places we could go as we booked for 3 weeks! Finally, we asked for the repairs to be made after we left as the mold and dust would be spread all over if they disturbed the area.

    Booking gave some travel credits, but Home2Book promised a partial refund, which never arrived. We had to disputed this with our credit card company a month after our return. I have never seen such a situation where both parties were pointing at the other and we, the clients, were expected to text or call each of them!

    Furthermore, the design of this apartment is stale and sagging! The quality of the chosen furnishings is a brand we all know, but it cannot take wear and tear. The owner should throw away all the pillows as they were garbage! The linens were bleached and torn. Kitchen was missing linens, sponges, and cutlery (1 teaspon and 2 tablespoons is what we had). Dishes were cracked and chipped. Both air conditioners need deep cleaning to function properly or replace them. The sofabed was coming apart. You could see the staples and the prefab wood coming apart. The table was warped. The oven was out of order. Finally, the 2nd A/C stopped working 3 days before we left. In addition to the damages that were not repaired prior to our arrival, this apartment was a failure, big time.

    What could be improved: No instructions for appliances. Chose apartment to be able to eat in and wash clothes before joining a cruise. No glass turntable in oven/microwave so could not use. Electric dial on washing machine not working (looked up online and not usablel). Blinds in bedroom broken. No light bulb In bedside lamp. Sofa (only seating was a sofa bed) in lounge soft and obviously old as you sank in to it. Had to put cushions underneath to be able to sit upright….Most uncomfortable. Got the feeling "We have your money and do not care.
