You know what struck me first about this place? The elevator ride up – and I mean *up* – because this penthouse actually feels like a proper penthouse, not just some marketing term they slapped on a regular apartment. When those doors open and you step into Home2Book’s space in El Médano, there’s this immediate sense of “okay, this is different.” The light hits you right away, streaming through these massive windows that basically frame the entire Tenerife coastline. I mean, you’re looking straight out at the ocean and honestly, it’s the kind of view that makes you want to immediately text photos to everyone back home (which, let’s be real, never quite capture it anyway).

The terrace is where this place really earns its keep though. It’s not just some tiny balcony with two plastic chairs – we’re talking about actual space to spread out, and that pool situation is pretty sweet for a rental property. I spent most mornings out there with coffee, watching the windsurfers gear up down at the beach because El Médano is absolutely mad for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The apartment sits close enough to the action that you can walk to Playa El Médano in maybe five minutes, but far enough up that you’re not dealing with the beach crowds or the constant whoosh of kites overhead. The whole setup inside feels thoughtfully done too – like someone actually considered how people live, not just how a place photographs. Kitchen’s got everything you’d actually need if you hit up the local Spar or decide to cook some of that amazing fish from the harbor market.

What I really appreciated was how the place manages to feel both relaxed and polished at the same time. The 4-star rating makes sense because everything works properly (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case with vacation rentals), but it’s not stuffy or overly formal. Air conditioning that actually cools the space down, decent WiFi, and – this matters more than people think – genuinely comfortable beds. I’ve stayed in plenty of places where the photos look incredible but you end up with a backache from some terrible mattress. El Médano itself is still pretty authentic compared to some of the more touristy parts of Tenerife. Sure, it gets busy during windsurfing season, but it’s got this laid-back, local vibe where you can grab dinner at family-run spots and not feel like you’re in some resort bubble. The whole southern tip of the island has this different energy – drier, more rugged, with that constant trade wind that keeps things from getting too sticky. From the penthouse, you’re perfectly positioned to explore both the beach scene and day trip to places like Montaña Roja for hiking, or even make the drive up to Teide if you’re feeling ambitious. It’s the kind of place where you could easily extend your stay and not run out of things to do, which honestly happened to me – ended up rebooking for three extra nights because leaving felt premature.

  What could be improved: Only improvement would be to have had a bottle of water in the fridge on arrival – we arrived very late at night after a long day of travelling / delays so didn’t appreciate having to go out in search of water in the middle of night!
  A key safe would be a useful addition for guests who arrive late – we were fined 20 euros for being 15 mins late (flight delayed).

  Nice location with a sea view and 7-8 minutes walk out of town. Great space on the roof which is all yours and a nice balcony too. Didn't use the pool but it looked beautifully maintained. Modern and clean…really no negative comments at all.
