Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to HolidaynorthTenerife Caserío Rural Los Charcos – I mean, the name alone is a mouthful – but this place actually surprised me. It’s tucked away in this little hamlet called Las Canales, just outside Icod de los Vinos, and honestly, you’ll probably miss the turn the first time because it feels like you’re driving into someone’s private neighborhood. The property sits at Caserío Los Charcos 1, which is basically the address for what used to be a traditional Canarian farmstead, and they’ve done a really thoughtful job converting it into guest accommodations without losing that authentic rural vibe.
The thing that struck me most was how quiet it gets here, especially in the evenings when the only sounds are these tiny geckos chirping and maybe a dog barking somewhere in the distance. It’s about a 10-minute drive from the center of Icod – you know, where the famous thousand-year-old dragon tree is – but it feels worlds away from any tourist crowds. The rooms have this rustic charm with thick stone walls that keep things cool during the day (which you’ll appreciate in summer), and the traditional wooden shutters actually work, unlike a lot of places. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and the whole property had maybe six other guests, so it felt almost private.
What really won me over was the attention to detail that you don’t usually get at rural hotels. The check-in was super relaxed – more like being welcomed into someone’s home than a formal hotel process. They’ve got this small pool area that’s perfect for an afternoon dip, and the terrace where they serve breakfast has these views across the valley that are honestly worth the stay alone. You can see all the way to the coast on clear days, and Mount Teide looms behind you to the south. The breakfast itself is simple but good – local cheese, fresh bread, proper coffee, that sort of thing. Nothing fancy, but it hits the spot.
The location works really well if you’re planning to explore the northern part of Tenerife. You’re close enough to hit the coast at Garachico (maybe 15 minutes) or explore the Anaga mountains, but far enough from the madness of Puerto de la Cruz or Santa Cruz. There’s actually a decent restaurant called Casa Gaspar about five minutes down the road if you don’t feel like driving into town for dinner. Fair warning though – you’ll definitely need a car here. There’s no walking to anything, and the road up can be a bit winding if you’re not used to mountain driving, especially at night.
Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities or anything like that, but for what it is – a peaceful, well-run rural retreat with genuine character – it delivers. The 8.2 rating feels about right. I’d probably stay again, particularly if I wanted to disconnect for a few days and explore this part of the island at a slower pace. Just don’t expect room service or a concierge; this is more about embracing the simple pleasures of rural Tenerife.

Great place with the great views. The contact with the host was immediate. The house was clean and very cosy. Even though there are neighbours next doors, we could never hear them thanks to the good isolation. The house is located outside of the town, however even by foot it takes around 5-10minutes to get to the Icod center (also bus station), with plenty of restaurant, groceries and tourists attractions. Some comments mention little hot water – that was not true in our case, it has never ended for us even during longer showers.

The location for us (2 families) was ok. It is far away from the city of Icod but with the car it is not that problem – very quiet place.
Much space for us.Nikolay from Spain (9/10)
Beautiful view, nice, clean quiet rooms, coffee machine and everything needed for cooking

Excellent location for touring northern Tenerife. Icod is about 10 mins walk away, tho it is a steep walk down and up which wasn’t a problem for us. In town there are several nice places for dinner and coffee. The property was very clean and had all the equipment needed for our 10 day stay. The drive up to the property is very steep, but on a well surfaced drive, our hired fiat 500 coped very well, but we are glad we didn’t arrive for the first time after dark. The bonus is that the elevated position of the case gives you amazing views over Icod and vast open views of the surrounding landscape. We enjoyed the Cueva del viento tour nearby, Tasca La Parada and the Casa el Drago both for such stunning settings, friendly staff and great food.
