I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the H10 Tenerife Playa on Avenida de Colón, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s right in the thick of Puerto de la Cruz’s tourist zone, and you know how those spots can be hit or miss. But actually, this place surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about this hotel is that it gets Puerto de la Cruz right, if that makes sense. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Playa Jardín (that black sand beach everyone talks about), but more importantly, you’re positioned perfectly to actually experience the town like locals do. I mean, step out the front door and you’re on the same street where people are heading to work, grabbing their morning coffee at those tiny bars that don’t even have names on them. The hotel itself has that solid, unpretentious vibe – it’s definitely a proper 4-star place, but without any of that stuffy resort nonsense that makes you feel like you’re trapped in a bubble.

What really won me over was how they handle the details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere for more than just Instagram photos. The rooms face different directions, and honestly, I’d recommend asking for one toward the back if you’re a light sleeper – Avenida de Colón can get a bit lively on weekend nights, though it’s nothing terrible. The staff actually knows the area well (not just the touristy bits), and they’ll point you toward places like the little tapas spot two blocks down that doesn’t look like much but serves the best pulpo you’ll find outside of Galicia. The pool area is where the hotel really shines, actually – it’s got this relaxed atmosphere where you can hear the ocean but you’re not dealing with sand in everything. I spent more time there than I expected, just reading and watching people navigate the organized chaos of Puerto de la Cruz below.

You know what sealed the deal for me? It was around 7 PM on my second day, and I was heading out to explore the old town area near the plaza. The evening light was hitting the hotel’s facade just right, and I realized this place had become my actual base, not just somewhere to crash. That’s when you know a hotel is doing something right – when it feels like a genuine part of your travel experience rather than just a necessary evil. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there for a few days. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the island, but it nails the fundamentals while keeping you connected to what makes Puerto de la Cruz special in the first place.
