Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Grosse Terrasse,” I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but this place on Calle la Longuera absolutely delivered. It’s tucked away in Los Realejos, which honestly most tourists skip right over on their way to the flashier spots, but that’s exactly what makes it special. The location is sort of perfect if you know Tenerife – you’re high enough up to catch those incredible views over the coast, but you’re not dealing with the crowds that swarm places like Puerto de la Cruz (which, by the way, is only about a 10-minute drive down the hill).

What really caught me off guard was how thoughtfully modern everything felt without being cold or sterile. The solarium – and I mean, this isn’t just some tiny balcony they’re calling fancy – actually works as a proper space where you can spread out with your laptop if you need to knock out some work. Speaking of which, the home office setup is genuinely functional, not just a desk shoved in a corner. The wifi was solid throughout my stay, which you know can be hit or miss in the Canary Islands depending on where you end up. The terrace (obviously the star of the show given the name) faces west, so those sunset views are… well, let’s just say I found myself planning my evenings around them. You can see all the way down to the coast on clear days, and there’s something really satisfying about watching the ferry boats come and go from Garachico port way below.

The neighborhood itself is residential and quiet – like, actually quiet, not “quiet except for the construction starting at 7 AM” quiet. Most of the other buildings are local family homes, so you get a real sense of how people actually live here rather than being stuck in a tourist bubble. There’s a little bodega about two blocks down where the owner (Carlos, I think?) speaks perfect English and stocks surprisingly good local wines. Parking was never an issue, which honestly surprised me given how narrow some of these mountain streets can be. The whole area feels safe for walking, even at night, though you’ll want decent shoes since some of the streets are pretty steep. One thing to note – if you’re planning to explore the island, this makes a great base since you can hit the highway toward Teide or the northern coast pretty easily, but you’ll definitely want a rental car. The local bus service exists but it’s… let’s say it runs on island time.
